Finally got my own copy of Blair’s Lectures. Not quite a 1783 first edition, but having the complete text in one volume is much easier. This edition, printed in 1838, used to belong to the High School of Glasgow. #TeamRhetoric

Another event with research output planned! This one - on October 1st - examines ancient rhetoric in the modern world. It takes a global perspective with international contributors. Papers will appear in the peer reviewed journal, Global Discourse. Places are strictly limited! @livunipol.bsky.social

Delighted to announce that my article, analysing projections of ethos in British and Norwegian political rhetoric, has just been published under ‘early view’ in Global Discourse.

For those with access, you can find it here: bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/view/journal...

Apparently knowing Ancient Greek allowed you to get away with murder in the early 18th century.

Just registered for #PSA25! Looking forward to speaking to colleagues and friends in Birmingham in the Spring about the uses of rhetoric in resignation speeches and letters. #TeamRhetoric

I don’t use Facebook much, but when I log on I am suggested pages with names like “Reminiscing Britain” which posts pictures from the 70s with the caption “When Britain was proper British!”. A little homework shows they are mostly run from abroad and are designed to sow division.

Just spent some considerable time scanning two articles (80 pages on total), only to find that they are available online. O tempora!
