The wild horse Thor as a foal in 2011 with mother Taboo and father Booker Rose. Thor was the most beautiful foal I had ever seen, and it was a great joy following h through his life in the McCullough Peaks Herd in Wyoming. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

Wild curly stallion Paladin leads his mares on the incredible windy day in May last year when so many horses were on the move together in Salt Wells Creek, Wyoming. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

Copper, Dollar’s curly colt born last year with his stunning blue eyes captivated me one morning when I spent time with the band in Salt Wells Creek. Yes with such a rare genetic heritage, it would make much more sense to study the herd than to zero it out. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

Dollar, wild curly stallion of Salt Wells Creek has a large family of almost entirely sorrels. He’s one of only two grey curly stallions on the HMA. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

Jack of Hearts is one of my favorite wild stallions. This was taken 3 years ago on a gloomy morning in Salt Wells Creek as Jack looks over his shoulder toward his family. His lush curly mane, blue eyes are distinctive as his protectiveness toward his family. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

This is the wild curly stallion Zorro, looking out over his range in Salt Wells Creek in the spring when there is still snow on the mountains. Zorro is one of several black curly stallions but he is easy to identify with his distinctive bent ear. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

In the early spring there is still snow on Mellor Mountain in Salt Wells Creek. The horses have not shed out completely, and a snow storm is not out of the question. The roads can be horrible when wet. The foals are beginning to be born and the grass is coming in. #carolwalker #wildhorses

Throwback to several years ago in McCullough Peaks - a young stallion I named Tall Socks, aka Las Vegas, shortly after he was born to his mother Legacy. He went on to have his own family then was rounded up and removed in 2024 by the BLM. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

My adopted mustangs Mica and Helios feeling frisky on this cold morning as they run in for their hay. Mica is in the lead and Cremosso, older and wiser, was already eating at one of the piles of hay. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

Throwback to 2011 with wild mare Taboo and son Thor in McCullough Peaks. When I first laid eyes on Thor, I thought he was the most beautiful foal I had ever seen. It was a joy spending time with him through his life. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses

This is wild stallion Storm of Lost Creek with a couple of his gorgeous family members before the devastating winter of 2022-2023. I could always find Storm and his family near Looking Glass and his family. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses #wildhorsepc

I can’t wait for spring! This last year brought new foals to Salt Wells Creek including this little pinto cutie Suri, daughter of the wild black curly stallion Bobby who is one of the oldest horses in this herd. He has so much wisdom and knowledge to pass on. #carolwalker #wildhoofbeats #wildhorses
