Those who possess power move in a sphere of unresisting obedience, without the human matter around them being capable of creating that brief interval between impulse and action where thought has its place. Where there is no room for thought, neither justice nor caution have their place. (S. Weil)

Considering the political catastrophe currently being facilitated or indulged by US hyperscalers (Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, OpenAI, etc.) my questions is this: How are we still existentially dependent on their products and services? Why aren't there mass defections from these terrible risks?

So much of the coverage of the EU is hyper-micro. It's all about the sausage making. So story out of Copenhagen European Council is "dithering," "all talk, no action," nothing fully agreed, etc. It's an effing meeting! Take a step back... they are moving on Eurobonds/frozen Russian assets. 1/

Inflation ticking up, capital flight, Trump and IMF to the rescue, Peso in free fall. I am waiting for in-depth analysis from conservative economic pundits on how this could happen to their poster boy Javier Milei.

In his Critique of Cynical Reason (1983), Peter Sloterdijk constructs the “protestic man” as fascism’s sociological substrate. The veterans of World War I hoped to become whole again by submitting to simplicity, nationalism and a charismatic leader. What is today’s extreme right recovering from?

Full recommendation for One Battle After Another. Great cinematography, superb direction. Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio excellent in the tight space between the monstrous and the grotesque.

This is such a great insight.

LLMs are writing the way they paints maps: They go through the motions, sputtering patterns which are completely sufficient for the bureaucratic need to create a superficially adequate product.

But they have no skin in the game and it shoes.

On September 11,2025,it became known that the USА lifted sanctions on Belavia, the Belarusian state-owned airline

This opens the way for Russian aviation to rather easily obtain the spare parts needed to service its airfleet -both civilian and military -since many of those parts are dual-use

A severe indication of how much US politics has been losing its mind is the treatment Charly Kirk's assassination has been getting in the liberal media. In the NYT, first Ezra Klein, and now Ross Douthat sound as if Kirk had been some sort of later day Reagan.

Busy in further losing its mind, the hermit empire has just lost some more friends. I am sure the South Koreans will remember this fondly for a long time.
Something folks are missing here: this raid wasn’t about “illegals taking American jobs.” It was about ICE storming the Hyundai–LG battery plant in Georgia, part of a $7.6B Metaplant project that isn’t even operational yet.
