Seeing this remindsed me of this image that keeps getting regurgitated by the Blue Tick Daves™ (IYKYK) over on Twitter, complete with "Best Video Game Of 2004?" caption. Including The Polar Express is clearly rage bait considering the games missing from the image. Burnout 3 isn't even there FFS.

Customer mentioned the console had an ODE and said they would send the FreeMcBoot memory card, so didn't think much of it. I wasn't expecting this.

Yep, a mod to "resurrect" the IDE interface and install an IDE-2-SD adapter. Modern versions of this use a flex cable, like those by Gusse. However this one is wire-by-wire.. and is held together by hot glue 🤯

The main issue for the TLC is that the top shield cannot be released without ungluing things. Talking to the customer (who didn't know how all this was held together), we agreed I would do my best to at least try to change the thermal pads on the main chips. Easier said than done!

Once that was done 🥵 I moved to the fan. This one was very difficult to disassemble as well due to the metal housing, so I opted for using fine cotton buds to reach all the fan blades.

I then replaced the battery, which in this model means cutting the connector from the old battery, solder it to a new battery and protecting it with shrink tube

A milestone like this kind of makes you think; do I really need social medias anymore? I waste loads of time mindlessly scrolling but barely interact. I could be doing things that actually make me happy instead. Not making any rash decisions... yet.

It's been well over 25 years since I last bought or even 'played with' Lego, only by chance I realised sets like a simple pair of roses existed. Seems a fitting and lasting tribute to the man who bought me all the Lego I could have possibly wanted back when I was a nipper.
