The annual interhouse quiz packed 200 Sixth Formers into FH with PTA‑funded pizza and drinks. Eight rounds led by staff ended in a “Whitney Houston challenge” tiebreak. Results: 3rd Athenian Y13, 2nd Olympian Y13, 1st Olympian Y12 (thanks to Josh!). A great start to the holidays!

Olivia and Ava (Y13) were shortlisted for the prestigious Sovereign Art Prize! The celebration at Phillip’s Auction House in Mayfair featured 25 London students and a speech by Tim Marlow on art’s role in creativity and expression. Huge congrats to both!

WLFS took on the annual #GCHQChristmasChallenge. Our 2025 GCHQ code-breaking champions are: Alice, Salma (Year 13), Rosie, Sophia, Kaitlynn (Year 12), Alexa (Year 10), Tahlia (Year 9), Isabella (Year 8) and Kilian (Year 7)! Thank you WLFS Foundation for funding our prizes!

Christmas has come to FH! Nyla (Y12) got busy decorating the beautiful tree in FH reception last Friday, which was generously donated by the PTA (and kindly collected by Rafe and Charlie, Y13). The result, with the four core Franklin team at the top, is a work of art.

Year 12 students represented WLFS at a House of Lords event with the Constitutional Society. The panel discussed lessons from the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. Matthew (Y12) asked about devolution, whilst being broadcast live on the Learn with the Lords media page

Yr 12 & 13 girls (w/ Y11 support) faced Godolphin and Latymer's 1st XI football team. After a tight first half, captain Hannah scored with 5 mins left, followed by Avive (Yr 11), sealing a 2-0 win! Huge credit to first-time players & Hannah for stellar leadership. POM: Avive W.

Year 12 artists enjoyed an inspiring talk by Naila Hazell on painting techniques, sketchbook practice, and life as a professional artist. Based in Hammersmith, she’s exhibited globally, won major art prizes, and creates vibrant works celebrating human relationships.

We had a record 150+ entries for the Senior Maths Challenge. Huge congratulations to all who earned gold awards and advanced to the next round on Nov 19. Fantastic effort from everyone in this challenging and rewarding competition!

Year 13 Spanish students went to see the ballet rendition of Como agua para chocolate (Like Water for Chocolate) at the Royal Opera House. They had the opportunity to go backstage, where they saw costumes, stage, and the areas where the performers prepare for their shows!

Our Public Speaking Competition winners at South Hampstead High School's Autumn Competition. Despite some excellent speeches, our students didn’t quite make it to the final round – but they conducted themselves with grace and good-will, and really impressed the judges! Bravo!

Years 12/13 English Literature students attended the new play, ‘Born With Teeth’, in London. Students enjoyed the dynamic performances of Nutci Gatwa and Edward Bluemel. Ms Brennan and Miss Lonsdale were impressed by the exemplary behaviour of students during the whole trip!

This week’s guest speaker was Robert Hardman, who talked about his life as a journalist and latterly royal biographer and commentator, interviewing the King, Bill Clinton – and Maya Jama! Students were overheard saying ‘that was so good’ and ‘my favourite talk by far’ afterwards.

Last week, Susanna Fadeyi spoke about her path to becoming a barrister, the value of purpose, and pursuing interests beyond academics. A former pro athlete, she shared how discipline shaped her career. Students asked great questions, from legal roles to her 100m sprint time!
