'Empowering children to achieve their unique potential creates a better future for us all'
Children's Wellbeing etc Bill.

Increasing numbers of Peers are raising concerns about the Bill but this Government has deaf ears. It is a wise leader who adapts to be accepted and a fool who will not bend.
Home Educators are not he only ones affected, you could be too.

Freedom: the ability to be who you are and live as you please.

Caring freedom, the ability to be who you are and live as you please but wanting to be a valuable member of society.

Today's treat was watching two little girls taking part in hobby horse gymkhanas. They have never been to school and are the youngest of a large family of home educated children, every one of whom is different.

If your children are mid exams, remember to tell them that there is no such thing as failure, there is their best and pride in what they can achieve. We cannot all get A* in everything, mor crucially, the World needs talented 'D's as well. All children have value. #EducationOtherwise

Mid GCSE, paper twos up to 18th June. Home educating parents learn so much from their children, including GCE exam questions! Inspiring the next generation to love learning for its own sake.

Whose children are they?

Pick up the nearest object and your child's whole education can come from that. A rock, Lego brick or tattered teddy, each one can inspire learning. How was it made, from what, where did the parts come from, what is it like there....rabbit holes galore! Home education works.

Every child deserves unconditional support; never take away their firsts, no matter how long ago we experienced them ourselves as each one is part of wonder.

Home education putting children at the centre, the future is heirs.

Almost half way through GCSE exams and I have lost track of how many groan producing chemistry jokes I have heard, every single one a joy from a child who could not grasp it only months ago. Patience, love and reassurance.

I was home educating a grandchild when I first learnt any meaningful geology, sparked by a course he wanted to take. That 'child' became a geology fellow and my collection of rock samples runs to several hundreds.
Home educate and be inspired by your child.

Tectonics: Stand across a divergent plate; inspire your child. Or, use layer cake! Slice across layers, demonstrate converging, diverging and transform. Baking (maths, literacy and chemistry) and geology plus treats. #EducationOtherwise

Home education; learning with your child. Grandson's subjects of choice are very different to mine but I find myself increasingly able to answer questions about complex scientific points which he has learnt but I never did. That is how home education can work. #EducationOtherwise

Next week sees the start of GCSE exams. Already, young people are anxious and stressed. Making young people sit a large number of exams all at once is not reflective of University or real life. Is it any wonder that our young people are the least happy in Europe?

Criticising a dyspraxic child's writing and insisting that they can do better is cruel. Watching a very bright 16 year old trying to write, but unable to control a pen's movement, brings home just how crucial home education is to our SEN children. Caring for the individual.

Tomorrow, 1st May, the House of Lords debates the Childrens Wellbeing and Schools Bill. Several senior barristers (David Wolfe KC advised) have advised organisations that it is able to be challenged in judicial review if it goes ahead as it is.

Imagine... no bullying, no peer pressure, no having to fit learning into half hour or hourly slots, no loud bells, no 'isolation', no putting your hand up to go to the toilet, no scratchy uniform and no restriction on what you learn.
Home educated children don't have to imagine.

Small children are innately honest and wise about their own needs. Home educators listen to their children and those children gain maturity, self motivation and independence as a result.
The right path for a child is their path, not one set by others.

A wonderful 16 year old, at a prestigious ballet school, taking a degree and enormously talented, told me how her old school staff told her that she would never make anything of herself if she 'failed' maths. Home education mended her spirit. Nobody had the right to break it.

After over 40 years' of home educating children and grandchildren, I am starting again with A levels in 'boy's' subjects which I was not allowed to learn at school. How very far we have come in understanding that every child is an individual with individual education needs.

Granddad at Zoo today with grandchild. Unknown boy aged 7-8 asked him a question. When he got home, he told me about it and commented "I think he must have been home educated as he gave a good account of himself and was articulate".

Home educated children become doctors, gardeners, ballet dancers, scientists, pilots, lawyers, geologists, florists, actors and every type of role possible.

What they do not often become is unemployable, or unable to be of their best.

It works. #EducationOtherwise

Learning: take Easter eggs (please take them!); home educated children have learnt why they are symbols, what of and whether that is positive; how they are made, how many are made and transported, whether they are good value for money and much else. Happy engaged and fulfilled.
