If you’re in a job search as the business world slows down, you might be wondering how to stay connected. Cue the holiday party. It’s time to catch up. Be festive. Don’t pitch. Put aside the job search. Follow up soon after the new year to get a networking meeting on the calendar.

A long job search can wear you down. As the months pile on, it’s easy to lose hope and confidence. The antidote: stop counting the days, don’t make meaning from past silence or rejection, focus on weekly wins and get support. You only need one win. It’s closer than you think. #JobSearch #Hiring

In a job search when you send outreach notes and don’t hear back, you might need to include a better credential. That's a concise statement showing your unique value, the well-known brands you’ve worked for, and the impact you’ve achieved on the job, quantitative if possible. #Networking #JobSearch

When clients in a job search ask if they can forgo a cover letter, I answer: Sure, if you don’t want the job. Cover letters have to be additive to your resume. Show real interest in the company. Explain how your experience prepares you. Avoid boilerplate language. Use AI sparingly.

Most clients in a job search tell me they struggle with networking. It’s tough asking for help. People don’t always respond. But it's still the surest path to a job. The key is focusing on process, not outcome: set an achievable networking goal each week. Count that as the win.

After months of searing rejection, my client just landed a job. I asked him what he learned from the experience he wanted to remember if it should happen again:

In a job search you can fail 99 times out of 100. All you need is that one yes.

Hang in there!

Cold job applications rarely work and can crush your spirit. But don’t rule them out completely. If a listing excites you, hunt for referrals and apply. Read the job description carefully. Apply when you meet most key qualifications. Prepare to explain any gaps in an interview #JobSearch #Interview

In a job search, if an interviewer says “you’re overqualified,” ask about their specific concerns: Too much comp? Won't roll up your sleeves? Too hard to manage? You’ll get bored and leave? Prep in advance how to answer their concerns and why your experience is perfect for the role. #InterviewTips

In a job search after years where you were respected, connected, and had impact - and now you wonder "Who am I?" Remember: your experience and talent stay with you. Remain connected with your community for validation. Volunteer your expertise to keep sharp and contribute something meaningful.

When your job search stalls, with no interviews, no callbacks, no replies, it can feel like nothing you do matters. Taking any action can feel pointless. To break that silence, try one small move. Reach out to someone you’ve been meaning to. Make one call. You will rebuild. #JobSearch

The magnificent Diane Keaton was asked if she was good at promoting herself. “…I was mortified by that idea, but now… hello, why wouldn’t you promote yourself.” Even the most talented among us struggle to advocate for their work. But find a way. In a job search, it’s everything. #JobSearch

@linkedin.com limits connection notes to 300 characters. For job seekers, that can feel restrictive, but it’s useful. It forces you to be concise about your credentials and why you’re reaching out. Be authentic, specific and include a direct ask. #JobSearch #LinkedIn #Networking

If you’re in a job search tired of hearing “just network” when you’ve reached out to everyone on your list - here are 3 tweaks: set weekly benchmarks, go painstakingly through contacts for overlooked names, pick a few companies you admire, then find a person to add to the list. #JobSearch #Careers

You’re stuck in a job search. You’ve asked "What do I want to do next?” but it didn’t help. Try this question with ground rules: If I could wave a magic wand, what work would you do? You have 30 seconds. “I don’t know” isn’t an option. Don’t overthink #CareerTransition #JobSearch

Your job search has stalled. You’ve talked to everyone you know, and can’t keep circling back to the same people, saying the same thing.

Open your contact list. Scroll slowly. Flag names even if it’s been 10 years or more. One of those conversations might lead to your next opportunity. #JobSearch

Whether you're out of work or still employed, now’s the time to act:
Reach out to people who might open doors.
Refine your pitch, resume, and LinkedIn.
Set small, doable goals to stay on track.
Don't wait. Build what’s next.

You interview for weeks. Final round, 8 hours with C-Suite & peers. It goes really well. “We’re going with another candidate.” Crushing. “I don’t think I could’ve done anything more.” Rejection shakes you. Resist pulling back. That’s how you get to yes. #JobSearch #Resilience #InterviewTips

You get an interview for a job you really want. Then the second-guessing creeps in: “Should I play it cool?”

Be authentic. Show your eagerness. Tie it to how you’ll specifically help the company reach its goals. #InterviewTips #JobSearch

To stay competitive in this job market, two things are non-negotiable:
➤ Networking
➤ Getting fluent in AI

Thanks to Daniel Anstandig for the memorable quote:

“People will not be replaced by AI; people will be replaced by other people who use AI.”

In a job search, it’s not who you know.
It’s WHO YOU CAN KNOW.

That recruiter? That hiring manager?
Someone who became their own boss?

They’re closer than you think.
You have to do detective work—and ask.

Today you're asking. Tomorrow someone's asking you.
