Good morning! Looking for suggestions from the #earlymodern hive mind. For my undergrad history seminar I am looking for a good text in 🇩🇪/🇬🇧, broadly related to eating&drinking from 1500 to 1800, to analyse scholarly articles (question/argument, previous research, sources, method, results). Thanks!

A friend had a job interview where she had to present her planned PhD project (interesting, original, ambitious). She was met by a panel of five profs from the project. Two minutes into her presentation one prof fell asleep. One of her questions was met with a silly joke and laughs from the panel.

I just heard some dude claim during the public hearing on the #WissZeitVG in the Federal Parliament that 🇩🇪 is the second most attractive country in the world for international guest researchers. He forgot to mention it's essentially only temporary entry-level research positions that are available.
How international are #science & #highered in #Germany?

tl;dr

- 14,7% of all academic staff (mostly non-tenured) are international
- 7,7% of all professors (mostly tenured) are international

A couple of thoughts 🧵
