Writer. White-knuckle knitter. Superannuated Pre-Raphaelite stunner. Punk- and Goth-adjacent. My novel, Damned Pretty Things, is available from Aqueduct Press (and the usual suspects). I like perfume.

The allergist this morning was, quite frankly, adorable. She was also *extremely* informative and thorough. She said I could try taking an antihistamine before eating tomatoes (and other nightshades), or try them cooked. If I have another skin reaction she wants me to send photos. So there's that.

My mother as a bride. Both my older sister and I wore her gown at our weddings. Now one of my nieces has it for safekeeping.

I love that Pittsburgh has got a Crucible Street.

Interweave has an online class called Fearless Steeking. I think if I were to attempt the technique it would be Utterly Nerve-Wracking Steeking (That Probably Involves Crying.)

Nisi Shawl is a visionary brilliant author, editor, critic and teacher, who is working on a book of otherworldly philosophy that sounds incredible.

Not surprisingly, this project has grown and flowered, and Nisi needs a bit more support. Please help if you can!

A couple of years ago @gsnorgathon.bsky.social gave me a bee necklace from the Museum of Jurassic Technology. It's got an impossibly wee jump ring and lobster claw (which autocorrect changed to "little bastards." Fair enough.) This morning, for the first time, I was able to put it on all by myself.

I *finally* sorted through my sweaters and took the spring and summer ones down to basement storage. I seem to have knit a ridiculous number of sweaters, with no end in sight

I was on the bus going from the UW to my job downtown. The bus driver announced the explosion and asked for us to pray for the lost.

I am intrigued.

Sometimes I think knitting is to me what golf was to my dad. He golfed every weekday, even though he wasn't a great golfer. I knit every day and sometimes just kind of suck at it.

*crying*

Monma Studio asked if they could use my photo on their Ravelry account. I said yes, but I'm so far the only Raveler who has knit this sweater, and I did such a poor job of it that it doesn't remotely resemble the pattern photos.

I really wish the creator of this video were credited. They deserve all the likes on this wonderful clip. Will this bunny join the ranks of Dramatic Prairie Dog?

(That little tilt of the head kills me.)

Another super important find (and proof that I hold on to prettyuch everything). Do any of you all remember Chew Bops? They were little disc-shaped pieces of bubblegum in miniature album covers.

This is my second favorite Bowie album, so I'm glad I kept it.

Puss, sleeping under her stool, with her head on the shawl I gave her because I didn't like the way it turned out.

I'm going through a seldom-visited rolling set of shelves and finding all manner of things, including our engagement announcement, one of our two appearances in the society pages of a *very* small-town newspaper.

Also found: a pic from our first Matter family road trip to Mt. Shasta.

Sanrio had got Hello Kitty-branded Kate Spade handbags that are eleventy-krazillion American bucks. Just thought everyone should be alerted to this if they want prestige (gag) Hello Kitty handbags.

This poor sweater is already pilling up a storm.

The sweater is dry. Does it look at all like the photos of the pattern? Why no, it does not. Should I rip it all out and try again? Maybe. @gsnorgathon.bsky.social likes it, which counts for a lot. Bonus shot of elephant bracelet, to emphasize that the sleeves are bracelet sleeves and not highwaters

A peach-strawberry pie is in the oven, along with what my mother called a butter roll (even though it's not rolled). Roll out your leftover pie crust, put a dab of butter, cinnamon, and sugar in the center, then fold the edges over the filling. We adored these when we were kids. Still pretty good!
