Firing the TDI downdraft kiln; this is nearing cone 10; the kiln is kept in slight reduction as indicated by the flames from the peeps and chimney

Loading the kiln; these pots dried out too much before glazing, which can result in more pinholes. But fingers crossed! There are some rutile, Shino, teadust, and granite glazes in this load.

My local clay has tons of iron in it. As in triple the iron content of RedArt. Here is some of the sand/pebble mixture I sieved out of this batch. The magnet pulls out literal nuggets of iron ore.

The year starts off with making clay; this is a blen of local North Carolina red clay, EPK, and North Carolina feldspar. Here are the raw materials being mixed; over the next few weeks I’ll sieve and dry it out to a working consistency.
