The positive weather story for Sunday is that for most it is not as wet. However, there will still be plenty of cloud around. Morning rain, some heavy in Scotland, slowly clearing north. Then bits of rain and showers elsewhere, especially the west. Mild.

Rain and some hill snow to start this morning in northern England and much of Scotland, especially the east. Although murky it's drier for England and Wales, even a few bright spells. Still some rain, sleet and snow in eastern Scotland, Orkney and Shetland. Mild in the south, colder north and east.

Forecast total rainfall for the week ahead showing another wet week in some areas. Notably southwest England, Wales and eastern Scotland see the most once again. Local flooding again possible.

A mixed weekend ahead; some gales in the southwest, areas of rain, but brighter and drier for some. Easterly winds develop on Sunday.

A band of rain SW Scotland to NW England this morning, tracking northeast and breaking up. Some heavy showers SE England. Tending to be more showers over west and southern coasts during the day. Brighter spells for others. Average temperatures.

Frosty start this morning, but then Wednesday is dry ahead of rain moving into Ireland and western Scotland this afternoon, and some patchy rain southern England. Patchy rain south and east this evening ahead of a band of more persistent rain breaking up as it heads east overnight.

There are some early signs of models signalling a return to colder conditions from the middle of next week. It's knife-edge stuff again; mild air west, cold air east and the British Isles in-between. But this is a growing and more consistent story. One to watch!

Latest forecast weather from 9pm Saturday evening to 6pm Sunday (ICON-EU model) shows the snow arriving across Scotland, northern England and Midlands (blue) turning to rain (green) through Sunday. Not before several hours of snow in NE England and central Scotland. Melting snow leads to flooding.

Fog patches in parts of England, Wales and central Scotland this morning, these soon clearing. A few wintry showers in eastern areas, also clearing. Some snow in the northwest of Scotland during today, but otherwise fair for most with sunny spells. Feeling cold though, milder in southwest.

Trust me when I say these forecast skew-t's for 6pm on Thursday evening look fun! Icing for all but Trawsgoed showing a severe icing risk around 870hPa, Heathrow highlighting that precipitation is rain there as the air is too warm, Wolverhampton and Manchester well into the snow.

The low pressure named Storm Goretti is expected to track east through southern England Thursday and Friday. The northern side of the low could bring significant snowfall, but height of ground, precipitation intensity, temperature and dew point will all play their part in where gets snow & how much.

Subtle change in wind direction today (Sunday), backing a little more to the northwest, means snow showers driving further inland over Wales and southwest England, and less onshore in eastern England. Radar shows this really well.

A widespread frost last night, -10C the lowest in the Cairngorms. More heavy snow showers in central and northern Scotlands today. A few snow showers Wales and Northern Ireland as well as Cornwall & Devon. Lots of sunshine elsewhere but cold.

Radar shows An area of sleet and snow moving south through Wales, central and southern England, giving a dusting of snow in many places. Ice behind this area as temperatures fall. Further heavy snow showers, some prolonged in central and northern Scotland.

Merry Christmas! A chilly day ahead for all of us and a strong east to northeast wind in England and Wales making it feel colder. Plenty of sunshine for many but some cloud in northern England. Dry for 99% although patchy rain in the southwest. It won't be a White one!
