A year ago today, the song cycle 'Itō Noe: On an Endless Road' by Francesca Le Lohé premiered in Tokyo, performed by the remarkable biwa player & vocalist Akiko Kubota.

Music: Francesca Le Lohé Words: excerpts from the writings of Itō Noe (1895-1923) Performed by Akiko Kubota Recorded at the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, University of Manchester, 8th March 2024 00:00: "The Way of the New Woman": Itō describes the struggle a New Woman faces in her quest for independence. 07:40: "From my Diary": excerpts from Itō's diary reveal the daily life and personal musings of a 17-year-old Itō. 15:40: "Women's Resistance": Itō describes the violent police harassment towards members of the 'Sekirankai' (women's socialist 'Red Wave Society') during the May Day protest, 1921.
