If nothing else, seems like a huge opportunity to fleece people who don't understand why ABA accreditation exists. Also: the test is clearly necessary but not sufficient. There are many, many, MANY truly terrible lawyers out there. Even from great schools!

Texas is now the first state in the U.S. to eliminate American Bar Association oversight of its law schools, ending the state's 42-year-long reliance on the national organization.
Texas becomes first state to end American Bar Association oversight of law schools
The Texas Supreme Court on Tuesday finalized a tentative opinion issued in September that no longer requires soon-to-be lawyers to attend a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. The power to approve those law schools now rests with the state's highest civil court.

I read the piece--that's not what he's saying. His point in the longer article was that people who operate in good faith are persuadable. I listen to Bulwark pods pretty regularly to get an idea of what people who disagree with me are saying, and he's not anti-trans.

Okay so why are we re-broadcasting it, then?

At the risk of outing myself as someone who spends far too much on haircare, the only heating tools that have ever *actually* worked on my hair were staggeringly expensive. The revlon dryer brush doesn't do it for thick/curly/angry hair. I can't imagine what would happen if I also used bleach.

Asking this seriously: has Bari Weiss ever in her career reported out an investigative story?

He is also quite notably left his wife to marry a *much* younger woman who was his research assistant. Always nice to be a cliche, I guess.

But also: as someone who has witnessed many of my friends' marriages almost dissolve during renovations, good for them for making it through one with three people. I am impressed.

...except then Paxton might actually win. I'm not sure I'm willing to risk that. He is a deeply unserious person who doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the US Senate.

....so is J.J. Read through the thread. School funding is so abysmal in Texas that some kids have to pay to use a school bus.

I shouldn’t have to share this article as much as I do. Sending condolences to all friends and family and loved ones from the Brown Shooting today.

Not meant sarcastically: what do we *do*? Especially in Texas. I remember being at the Capitol after Uvalde and being told by legislators their hands were tied because it’s Texas and people love guns. We just wanted to raise the age.

This is heartbreaking bc there's absolutely no way that this was the only kid this happened to. Ugh.

Seeing a lot of non-legal answers here that don’t refer to the actual rules of evidence? Generally, evidence that you once did something similar is not relevant to prove liability/culpability absent specific circumstances.

so this thread is discussing criminal cases? Sounds like you’re talking about civil cases. If the government paid fees for every charge it didn’t prove, I think the incentives would be pretty messed up.

Not sure if this is saying that Beto was too left leaning (and that's why he lost), or if you're arguing that Beto was more left leaning and performed better than Allred. The latter is true, btw.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad. That’s awful. I think the point I was trying (and failing!) to make was that there seems to be a lot of focus on his hand to the exclusion of other pretty clear indicators that he’s not mentally fit: falling asleep, slurred speech, MRIs, etc.
December 10, 2025 at 8:24 PM
This is possible, but his otherwise total unhinged-ness/falling asleep/speech difficulties seem like a better indicator? my concern is that many people now seem to assume bruised hands=dementia, which is off base.

Common wisdom also had it that the NJ race was going to be close bc Sherrill wasn't enough of a fighter. That was also wrong. I realize she's more centrist, but I'd like to give candidates a little more time before concluding they are doomed or in it for the wrong reasons.
