Just trying to paint my way to better mental health. (Currently working through the book Watercolor for the Soul by Sharone Stevens.)

Project #3: Avocado

I think it’s so interesting how even when there are “flaws” in a realistic painting, the brain seems to override them with how we know the object “should” look from memory. A reminder that we see things through our own lens of experience, not necessarily the reality that is.

I went to therapy for the first time this week. I’ve always tried to fix my issues on my own by working through the books and doing all the reading, but I’ve recently come to realize that I don’t have all the tools I need to do this myself. Despite the nerves,it was great and I’m feeling hopeful.

I finished the whale! I’m not in love with the lines on the belly, but I am happy that I completed the project and it looks alright overall. I guess the main thing to remember is that you can’t get better at something without practicing and I am grateful that I’m taking this time for myself. :)

A different perspective.

I went out for a drive today to capture some nature photos for future painting projects. This one is my favourite. I love the little bird in the bush and the colour of the water in the pond!

Project #2: Whale (The jellyfish was my first one)

Next step is to do all the skinny little lines on the belly. Does perfectionism ever make anyone else too nervous to do things? I’m pretty happy with how it’s going, but I don’t want to ruin it by messing up the lines. ☹️
