Trying to learn #watercolor. So fun, but so hard without natural talent. Made this account to post my paintings so I don't annoy the followers on my main account.
There’s a show on in NYC of Monet’s Venice paintings, and it’s pretty great to see his Venetian canvases collected from museums and private collections around the world. But the highlight for me was a bunch of Sargents gathered as part of the “other guys who painted Venice” part. Sargent is my boy.

I did this via a Tom Shepherd tutorial. It took me three attempts not to paint mud, and to get a halfway believable expression on their faces. And of course I could not yet do this on my own. But honestly, I’m amazed I could paint this. #learningwatercolor

McSorley’s. I was at Fishes Eddy with a friend and he was going to buy a print of a watercolor of this bar, and I boasted that I could do that. So then I had to. I actually think it came out ok.

Horses of St Mark. Going to do these again properly and on a larger scale (this is a small sketchbook.) Could be good. #learningwatercolor

My paintings are starting to look a bit more like how I imagined them in my head. This brings me so much joy! #learningwatercolor

Failed attempt at shadows. I guess I went too dark? They were really dark in reality but I keep forgetting I’m not a camera #watercolor

Sat down to do a quick sketch of a momentary image I saw out of the car window today. I can’t believe how well it came out. Probably the best trees I’ve ever done. #learningwatercolor

A bee I saw on my balcony this morning. Interesting lesson: it looked pretty bad until I darkened the background. Then suddenly it looked better. #watercolor

Maybe it’s because I adored him so, but while it’s not all that good, it’s far away the best portrait I’ve ever been able to do. #watercolor

My first attempt at "pouring" (I didn't really pour, just splashed paint around.) It came out so much better than I expected! I have to figure out how to soften edges at the end of the process, but I'm going to do more of this. I think it looks really cool. #watercolor #messingwithmasking
