Preparing for a PhD defense - statelessness - next week in Sweden where I’ll have the honour of being the “Fakultätsopponent“. Recalling Lévi-Strauss‘s concept of binary oppositions, I wonder why “being against“ seems easier to think than “being with“? Why “opponent” and not “orator” or “opinator”?

Bela Karolyi, a gymnastics coach who with his wife, Martha, developed generations of the sport’s leading athletes, but whose reputation was tainted by accusations of an abusive style and blindness to the sexual crimes of Larry Nassar, died at 82.
