Hey #booksky whats the best site/service to use if I wan't to track what I am reading during the year. Goodreads seems kind of clunky to me.

I absolutely loved Superman, I smiled so wide from start to finish

Project Hail Mary trailer came out, and I am just so sad how much of the story it spoils, because it's definitely in my top10 books and the mystery is so unique, I know it's hard to sell a movie on that, but they could have at least tried to leave some things as a surprise

So booked my tickets to Edinburgh for #edfringe, last time I went i just kinda wandered from show to show, but this time I was thinking of doing some planning, but the question is how, there is like thousands of shows listed with very little filters?

Back to #booksky

Since last update, I decided to dive into Dungeon Crawler Carl due to seeing a lot of recommendations for it. And I must say it did not dissapoint.

Listened all seven books very fast, just could not put them down. Some thoughts and spoilers below.

Looking for new recommandations!

Back to #booksky updates

Finished all the 12 books of Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka.

The whole series is an escalating story about a mage who has to make harder and harder choices from himself and his companions.

Since this is part of my Dresden Files kick, some comparisons below:

Sandman Slim books 1 and 2

This series didn't manage to quite grab me, I might return later.

It's really hard to like main character, and there is very little side characters at start.

First book throws a lot to you to a point i kinda felt lost

Second book was better, so there is hope

More #booksky

Just finished Iron Druid Chronicles 1 through 8 by @kevinhearne.bsky.social

For a huge fan of Dresden Files this was very enjoyable. The main character is way more mature from the start and there is a lot more mythology involved. Will come back to 9th part later for sure.

Went out to watch @koomikkokivi.bsky.social standup set tonight. Very enjoyable even if it was not all laughs. Will def look forward to the next tour.

Another #books #booksky thread:

Finished Murderbot diaries

All Systems Red
Artificial Condition
Rogue Protocol
Exit Strategy
Network Effect
Fugitive Telemetry
System Collapse

In this thread I will give a few thoughts, but in general I feel the series is very hit or miss.

Been reading so much this month it's time to go back to visual media. First binge on the list:

Cleopatra 2525

"An exotic dancer, cryogenically frozen in the year 2001, is accidentally thawed out in 2525 by two female warriors who are fighting against evil robots which have taken over the world."

More books I listened this month

The Interdependency trilogy

My favorite from @scalzi.com so far. Political intrigue with noble houses, compelling mystery in both human and interstellar levels.

Middle book was my favorite but the whole series holds up great

High recommendation!

Starter Villain by @scalzi.com

Jumped into this after Old Mans War, and really liked it. It's a fun romp with cats, plots and ofc. villains of all kinds. (No dogs tho, they sell you out for a treat).

Highly recommend this if you are looking for something fun

Been listening a lot of books in new years so lets drop some reviews:

The Human Division / The End of All Things

Old Man's War ends with double feature with a new set of characters, more episodic but still enjoyable, all in all enjoyed the start more, whole series gets a recommedation.

Okay, @scalzi.com marathon two-fer for the end of the year.

The Last Colony + Zoe's Tale

In general, Menonites in space turns into large scale politic incident and suddenly the whole future of the human race is in play.

Was suprised when 2nd book was same story in teen girl PoV.

Finished Ghost Brigades by @scalzi.com and really enjoyed it. If old man's war was boomers in space, ghost brigades takes a wide turn addressing consciousness, the idea of self and what it means to be born to war instead of joining up.

9/10, can't wait for next one.

Movie night with @kufdon.bsky.social

We started with The Goonies, which neither of us had seen. It's definitely a product of its time and while it's not a instant classic to me now, I would have loved this as a kid.

Not much to say, 7/10 now, still recommend and ofc

So I decided this Christmas to tackle Old Mans War by @scalzi.com

Just finished listening for the first part and enjoyed it very much. Good world building added with a humoristic tone and some real emotional scenes.

Weak 9/10, next up ghost brigade

And another book post

I just finished The Mercy of Gods (latest from the Expanse authors)

Book feels very much a prologue, not hooked yet but interested to see where it goes.

It throws a lot to you in a short time, with a ton of unanswered questions.

Okay, I realized I didn't do a post about Death's End (last part of Rememberance of Earth's Past)

I must say the book blew me away, the trilogy only hooked me in the second book, and Death's End really delivered on what that book set up. High concept scifi with thoughts on culture
