Nankeen Night-Heron showed up on our dam last week, which was very nice of since I got to record it in my #AussieBirdCount surveys. Doesn’t like having its photo taken, but I finally got it! #ausbirds
A bird with a chest back, white belly and black-capped head. It has a yellow eye and black bill, and it looks slightly alarmed. It is standing amongst reeds and other pond vegetation.

My children have set up a box from which to spy on the brown cuckoo-doves. The cuckoo-doves are suspicious of the giggling box but not enough to pass up the offer of seeds.

Succeeded at my Snipe hunt today ✅

A Latham’s Snipe, that is, by some miracle, not flying away so the only picture I get is a vague brown blur. It is wading through a grassy bit of wetland. Not pictured: the other four Latham’s Snipes I saw today, who all bailed out before I’d even lifted the camera.

We've lived on this property for 13 years and I've been trying to catch a quoll on my trail cams basically since we moved in. Never seen one. But today one turned up and tried to break into the (fortunately secure) aviary. This is the most exciting thing ever. #wildoz #ausmammals

It started pouring with rain on our walk yesterday. Anyway fun fact turns out pelicans drink rainwater by just sitting there with their bills open. They even moved to align themselves with the direction the rain was coming in. So that's cool. #ausbirds #wildoz #pelican

My seven year old described Royal Spoonbills as having a mullet and now I can't unsee it. #ausbirds #wildoz
A very handsome white bird with a black spoon-shaped bill and yellow eyebrows. And yes, a plume of feathers at the back of the head that could, perhaps, be called a mullet. The same bird, with its beak in puddle splashing about.
