About- I've been taking pics for over 50 years. I enjoy sharing old and new, and I love following other photographers and artists. I started out with a plan to be a photojournalist, but ended up in printing. That didn't stop my photography journey. Presently sports and infrared get most of my time.
I recently joined Substack so I could subscribe to a friend's page. I thought maybe I should try something.

Today, sailplane pilots are heading to Ephrata WA, for the US Region 8 Championships. For a week, you are tested on your ability to fly, with as much precision and speed as you can. I was lucky to win my first one, but didn't even come close after that. ssa.org/racing-sailplanes/

I want to send a birthday wish to my older brother Mark. We lost him 20 years ago, when he and cancer decided to take each other out. I was fortunate to have him visit and spend a week. Being able to take this portrait, meant so much to me. He was a carpenter, a dad, a brother to 10 of us.

45 years ago I married this beautiful, sweet girl named Rhonda. I was smitten! We were so young and broke, but everything felt perfect. Things got so busy...working, figuring out life, raising kids.

Now we are living our second life surrounded by grandchildren. I feel so lucky. Happy 45th Rhonda!😘

The early bird gets the worm(s)!

It grabbed a mouthful skipping across my lawn in less than 30 second. I was impressed!

Yesterday I worked on catching bees in flight. I failed miserably at this a couple days ago, so I just had to try again.

Children of the high altitude farming region outside Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. This was at the 9,000 ft (2740m) level where potatoes are the main crop.

I spent some time yesterday photographing bees. This was a first for me.

Most of the time, my head was a foot away from them. Luckily they were too busy with the task at hand to worry about me. I tried my best to catch them flying with marginal results. A new challenge for next time!

A few infrared B&W pics from semi-final soccer action last weekend. I always enjoy the upper level of play by all teams when they make the state playoffs.

#tbt Mallory Drug Store and soda fountain in Cherokee, Iowa - 1977. The cost was a nickel or dime, depending on the size of the glass. A nickel extra for a scoop of ice cream.

I always went for the dime sized cherry coke!

When visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, you can see letters, flowers and memory items left behind by family members. This one caught my eye. He was from a town near me and we shared a birthday.

My sister has a tradition of laying flowers at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
My Grandfather, E.B. Miller, National Guard tank Commander, survivor of the Bataan Death March and 3.5 years captivity.
His son, James, died in Italy.

1st time this year, half my pics are dumpster quality. It was a 1pm game in bright sun at 72 degrees. The turf got too hot for the 420mm setup. The 100-280 range did okay.

1st shot is full frame...should be tack sharp.
2nd and 3rd - close-up of feet, 4th weird patterns in turf

They lost btw. But this moment was pretty sweet.

My house is next to a walkway, that leads to a footbridge that crosses our lake. It's a perfect spot for a Little Free Library.

Now with a new printer, I was able to reload it with notecards, with pics I've taken on or around my property.

Next step, convince users to contribute more books!
