New Zealand's new (proposed) electorate boundaries were released this week. MMP means that electorate boundaries don't really impact the outcome of elections, but it's still interesting to how the changes might impact individual MPs.

I had fun seeing how far an article can go creating a page for the ‘Mr Asia: A forgotten history podcast’.

@svelte.dev makes it really easy to export an artist’s vision from Illustrator or similar and adapt it into code.

I'm happy with how our interactive of every school's NCEA results has evolved. Lots of information is readily available to readers and each school's achievement rate is shown in context.

It is incredible, and concerning, how well the new(ish) equity measure predicts outcomes. 1/-

Last year 44% more students left New Zealand state schools without NCEA L3 and before they turned 17 than during 2017–19.

I was shocked to find sparkling new buildings on the earthquake-prone building registry in New Zealand.

In two instances, buildings were demolished but were still listed as an active risk until I started asking questions.

A single number generally doesn't do justice to trends in crime stats - and the Police Crime Snapshot and Time and Place reports only contain about 30% of Auckland's reported serious assaults.

The corrections to the NZ election results don’t change the outcome. I wanted to know what would affect the results.

It depends... The nearest change this time is if NZF lost 5640 votes but in 2008 Labour only needed 39 more votes to take one on National’s seats.

If there is the same percentage difference in vote share between election night and specials as in 2017 National lose 3 seats and Labour and the Greens gain one each. The 2020 ratio results in a drop of two for the Nats and an additional seat for Labour. Use our interactive to explore the options.
