Today is National Seat Belt Day, a good reminder to buckle up and save lives. The Ohio Traffic Safety Office estimates a statewide compliance rate of about 85%. Yet unbelted crashes make up 62% of fatalities on Ohio roads, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Seatbelts save lives!

Ohio is working toward its 4th year in a row of declining traffic fatalities. This holiday season, let's work together to prevent traffic death by making small, safe choices, like buckling up, slowing down and staying focused.

@visionzerocbus.bsky.social safety improvements were installed at intersections along Ohio and Champion Avenues, including new all-way stop signs and curb bump-outs, which slow driver speeds by visually narrowing the road and reduce crossing distance for pedestrians.

Vision Zero making HUGE strides in safety!
It's been 1 year of the E Broad St demonstration!🥳 This @visionzerocbus.bsky.social project included converting vehicle lanes to protected bike lanes. It has shown incredible decreases in crashes (from 28 to 13) and high speeds (reduced by 89%). Next up: Designing permanent improvements!

In August 2025, there were no traffic fatalities on Columbus streets! This shows that zero traffic deaths on our streets IS achievable, but the last time this happened was 2018. There is still work to be done, no death is acceptable. Read more from @columbusunderground
