Today is National Seat Belt Day, a good reminder to buckle up and save lives. The Ohio Traffic Safety Office estimates a statewide compliance rate of about 85%. Yet unbelted crashes make up 62% of fatalities on Ohio roads, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Seatbelts save lives!

Ohio is working toward its 4th year in a row of declining traffic fatalities. This holiday season, let's work together to prevent traffic death by making small, safe choices, like buckling up, slowing down and staying focused.

@visionzerocbus.bsky.social safety improvements were installed at intersections along Ohio and Champion Avenues, including new all-way stop signs and curb bump-outs, which slow driver speeds by visually narrowing the road and reduce crossing distance for pedestrians.

Tonight should be no trick: Drive slowly and carefully as children and families hit the streets after dark. Be extra mindful of pedestrians crossing streets and walking through neighborhoods. No matter what your costume is, we can all be #VisionZeroHeroes

Vision Zero making HUGE strides in safety!

In August 2025, there were no traffic fatalities on Columbus streets! This shows that zero traffic deaths on our streets IS achievable, but the last time this happened was 2018. There is still work to be done, no death is acceptable. Read more from @columbusunderground

@visionzerocbus.bsky.social was represented on 2 panels at #OTEC2025! VZ partners discussed how to use the Safe System Approach, which is aimed at improving roadway safety by anticipating human error and designing systems to minimize the risk of serious injuries and fatalities. Great work!

DPS is committed to building roadways, ADA ramps and sidewalks so that people of all ages, incomes, and abilities can use them safely. Stories like Karen's underscore the importance of last night's hearing on updating our Complete Streets Policy.

The City of Columbus has completed the design for this project. Please join us on Tuesday, Oct 7 from 12 PM - 2 PM OR from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM at the Driving Park Community Center, located at 1100 Rhoads Ave.

We're ranked the fourth-best city for people with disabilities, but we still have room to improve. That's why we're committed to building and maintaining accessible sidewalks, ADA ramps, trails, crosswalks, and more, with all our residents in mind.

We've installed rubber medians along Thurman Ave for traffic calming, which we'll evaluate through the winter. This quick-build pilot project is an example of how our updated Complete Streets Policy expands our abilities to rapidly innovate and reach our @visionzerocbus.bsky.social safety goals.
