You see this being true in so many spaces. Vehicles trying to reinvent climate control, streaming trying to reinvent media consumption, voice control for things that need one button press, etc. it’s so frustrating to see us take 5 steps sideways and 2 steps back in the name of “innovation”.
My crankiest belief is that we are now being sold on solutions to problems which only exist because we've let others convince us they exist. That is what "innovation" seems to be in 2025.
There's a level of introspection that's just not happening these days re: what actually needs to bother us.

Well, you might be wondering why I'm new again. Turns out the PDS docker container has an unusual environment variable setup and my data didnt write to disk 😜 Updated my post about it:

Update 11/26/2024: Added PDS_DATA_DIRECTORY environment variable to compose.yml. The installer.sh script in the pds repo unusually aliases PDS_DATADIR to this for actually binding the volume.
