Congratulations to Mark Carney, on becoming the 24th Prime Minister of Canada today. My congratulations as well to all of my colleagues sworn into Cabinet, and in particular, to my successor at Justice, Gary Anandasangaree.

Today, we released the #IndigenousJusticeStrategy—a path forward co-developed with First Nations, Inuit, & Métis partners to address overrepresentation of Indigenous Peoples in the justice system, a product of the systemic racism rooted in Canada’s colonial legacy.

After today’s 11 appointments, our government has now appointed 234 judges since I became Minister—meaning 99% of vacancies filled. According to the data collected as of 2002, this is the lowest number of vacancies we’ve ever had!

Avec les 11 nominations annoncées aujourd’hui, notre gouvernement a nommé 234 juges depuis le début de mon mandat, atteignant un taux de pourvoi de 99 %. Selon les données recueillies depuis 2002, c’est le niveau de postes vacants le plus bas jamais enregistré!

Inspiring to meet with the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India once again. Grateful to His Holiness for sharing his wisdom about the Tibetan struggle for human rights with my family. My advocacy for the linguistic, cultural and religious freedoms of the Tibetan people will not cease.

Dunn House, a Parkdale housing project with health supports, opened last year. Those experiencing homelessness often have complex medical needs. Now, Dunn House is expanding health services beyond its walls to support more homeless Torontonians—amazing to see this growth!
