The bitter child version of me would be deeply offended to learn that I'm no longer the type of person to get offended when an adaptation isn't exactly like the book. Actually, I think you can use a bit of creativity to create a fresh, interesting take on the story. These days, I'm less interested in whether the adaptation hits all the same plot points and character details - instead, I ask myself if this adaptation shows that they understand the messages of the original work, and what new things they're bringing to it.

This is the fifth episode of Hanna Barbera's Gravedale High series, and it opens up with the monsters visiting a regular human mall in search of a birthday present for their teacher, Maxwell Schneider, with Cleo seemingly at the heart of this plan. This is a particularly sweet idea, given that these students are written as the monster school's "trouble" or "bad" children, and tend to give Maxwell a hard time throughout the series so far.

This is the fourth episode of my Gravesdale High posts, where I write out my thoughts on this cartoon as I'm watching the episodes. This episode, "Monster Gumbo," puts the spotlight on Blanche, a shopping-addicted Southern Belle zombie. As a kid growing up in the Bible Belt, I did tend to gravitate towards Southern characters, particularly if they were from the same state I grew up in.

Continuing in my series of Gravesdale High posting, we're now on the third episode of the series, titled "Cleo's Pen Pal." I remember pointing out in my first post on the series that every episode could focus on another of the students, and it seems we are continuing to follow this trend. That's the kind of excellent foresight one has when one is a grown adult watching cartoons aimed at children.

This is the second episode in the series where I, a twenty-five year-old man in college, blog about Gravedale High, a monster mash children's cartoon that came out in 1990. This is Rick Moranis' foray into the world of animation, starring as Maxwell Schneider, a nerdy teacher tasked with the most difficult and unruly class in a high school for monsters.

The other day, I had one of those weirdly vivid melatonin-induced dreams that caused me to remember the existence of the cartoon Gravedale High. And I thought, what the hell. I don't update this blog enough. I need a sneaky way to reach my exorbitantly high word count goal I created for myself at the start of the year. I'll just start making posts about it.

I lack the brevity necessary for a TikTok trend, so instead of making this a slideshow, I'm just going to create a needlessly lengthy post that presumably nobody will read. That's what I do! 10.
