Happy Halloween!
Drew a new custom icon that matches the spooky vibes for today. (and, changes to bloodied fangs in Dark Mode) :P

This summer I did something different for LookUp’s major update.

I broke it down into making multiple fake apps i.e. small prototypes that did just one specific thing while scaffolding everything else through rudimentary screenshots.

Blending Apple's design philosophy with my own understanding of the software design. LookUp's design process was intense, but rewarding.

LookUp 12 is out now! It’s a massive update with three tentpole features.

1. A completely new design

2. Learning Modes that help people build vocabulary through examples & conversations

3. Origin Maps that help traverse a word’s history.

Made some fun, interactive loading states in LookUp. They feel like they’re gliding atop of liquid glass.

With AI sometimes the speed of output can be slower than traditional API calls and no one likes to keep waiting, but if one must, might as well have some fun with it! 🙃

Search is so much more faster with LookUp 12.

Redesigns aren’t just about visual veneer, they should make the product better in meaningful ways.

Received a conference acceptance a few days ago. Then an another email, saying that they erroneously sent me an acceptance email, and it was actually a rejection.

Such is the state of my rejections of late. 🥲

The idea of having complete context on a person is a myth—context is vast, dynamic, and often intangible. No AI can capture it

Bad Contextual Computing UX isn’t from a lack of context, but from a lack of shared understanding of it.

Wrote about it here: blog.viditb.com/the-paradox-...
The Paradox of Context in Computing
Why more context isn’t always the solution for bad contextual computing. This post serves as a primer to contextual computing and offers a framework for designing good contextual experiences.

In the last 8 months, job hunt has been stressful yes, but it's the feeling of "no matter what I do, no matter how hard I try, it's just not enough" that's stuck with me and it's soul crushing.

I started researching on context about a year ago, and have wanted to write this post for that long. I think I finally have something meaningful to say. Just finished this ~2000 word post that also has a lot of visuals. Hoping to post it next week.🤞

I hear Apple's open to Mergers and Acquisitions for AI. Maybe they would also be open to hiring prototypers who've designed AI experiences? 🙃

Throwback to when I wrote a mini research zine on designing pizza ovens, for my class in Berkeley.

Had friends over for Pizza the other day, made an eclectic bunch, and then made some Naan for dinner from the left over dough. 🙃

@jessiechar.com Hey Jessie! I’m curious if there’s a way to find old Layers Conference talks? I was trying to reference a 2018 talk from Figma people, and finding it difficult to watch it online.

I once got a rejection email that went something like this: "Very cool that you met Tim!... However, we've chosen to move ahead with other candidates." 🙃
