Correction: Two years from now. The next winter Olympics in the United States will be in 2034 in Utah and Lake Placid.
This year's Winter Olympics are coming into the final couple of days, and after that, it'll be four years before the next event, which will be the 2028 summer games in LA. Here's an item in our collection from when the games were last held in the United States: the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah.

The 2026 Winter Olympics are underway, and ski jumping has particularly captivated us this week - not just in Italy, but closer to home at Brattleboro's Harris Hill this coming weekend, which will be holding the Fred Harris Memorial Tournament & Junior World Qualifier this weekend.

On this day in Vermont History: Alden Partridge is born in Norwich in 1785. He studied engineering at the US Military Academy at West Point and went on to teach at the school.

Vermonter Ryan Cochran-Siegle just earned a silver medal at the 2026 Olympics in Wednesday's super-G competition! It's his second silver in the category after his win in 2022.

Congratulations are in order to Olympic skier Ben Ogden, who just took home the Silver medal for the Cross-Country Skiing Men’s Sprint Classic — the first American to medal in the sport since 1976!

NASA is preparing to launch astronauts to the Moon for the first time since 1972 onboard the NASA Artemis mission this spring!

We have a tiny connection to this moment in history: we hold a pair of Moon rocks gifted to the State of Vermont from the Apollo 11 and Apollo 17 missions!

He became one of the best-known American artists of the 20th Century (particularly for the covers he illustrated for The Saturday Evening Post and for paintings such as Rosie the Riveter, and the Four Freedoms series)

The tragedy hit New England hard: astronaut Christa McAuliffe was a school teacher who taught in New Hampshire and many students were watching the launch live.

Historic buildings require a lot of work, and the heavy rain and flooding that took place in 2023 and 2024 was hard on the Vermont History Center. Last fall, we began work on some longstanding and pressing issues, starting with the building’s windows, which had begun to require attention.

On this day in Vermont history: on the evening of January 6th, 1857, the second Vermont State House in Montpelier caught fire and burned down. Earlier that evening, a worker had stoked a fire to warm the building ahead of a constitutional convention set to take place the next day.
