In July we were in Amherst Massachusetts for a few days. We found out the Eric Carle Museum was located not too far from us, so we went to check it out. It was pretty decent, featuring a lot of Carle’s artwork, as well as the works of other illustrators. Here are a few pictures.

A Southern Right Whale, estimated to be around 18 meters long and weighing 80 tons, caught on camera. Stunning.
These whales are relatively harmless and they are known to interact with humans.
Amazing creatures.

Some experimental Rorschach ink blot tests, from not too long ago where I explored principles of symmetry and asymmetry extensively. It was a great experience that I’ll definitely revisit in the near future.

A collagraph print
of the strange dinosaur-like creature that I am happier with. At this point, I’d figured a few things out. The arm is wonky, but that will be fixed in future prints. Again, feel free to suggest a name for this guy (…please, not Barney)!

Another set of collagraph prints of the strange dinosaur-like creature. In this case, I ran the collagraph plate through a small press. One print came out okay, the other got torn up a bit; the ink dried too quickly and I was too heavy-handed with the press.

I turned the page of my sketchbook and found this drawing that my kid snuck in there.
I love it. I love kids drawings. They’re so weird and uninhibited! I’ve tried imitating a childlike drawing style before and it’s actually kinda hard. This definitely makes me want to try it again.
