We watched Longlegs tonight. Not a perfect movie, but not bad for a light horror flick. I don’t love horror but my wife does so we watch wimpy ones together

Just finished up my first real round of snow shovelling this season

It figures a person with a podcast called “side hustle pro” would also sign up to voice some super annoying podcast ads. If it’s even a real podcast. Whatever, I never want to hear your voice again!

Next up on my reading list: the popular geology textbook Understanding Earth by John P. Grotzinger and Thomas H. Jordan. I’d like to brush up on my fundamentals and improve my ability to describe landforms and their histories. Both for personal interest and to become a better wilderness guide

Finished the grass and sedge book last night. It’s beautifully done and you can see why it’s a classic.

I was pleasantly surprised to recognize most of the species in our range, especially the sedges. I must be learning something!
Forest Forensics was a light read (by design) full of interesting tidbits. I’ll put its method into practice on every hike, and the book recalled some old haunts in a new light.

Next up: Grasses, Sedges, Rushes: An Identification Guide by Lauren Brown and Ted Elliman

I just saw a flying squirrel in broad daylight, flying around the front yard during a snow squall

The obsession with rich people behaving badly, whether in tv, movies, political gossip or whatever, is a disease. Yes, even that thing you like. I don’t care about artistic pretensions. It’s a rot that infects all of society and you’re not immune

Mike Myers must continue making Austin Powers movies for the rest of his life, one every 2 years, and he is never allowed to fire another production assistant for looking at or talking to him
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Advice is often self-serving. Conventional wisdom is often self-defeating. Things only ever work out well in my life when I do it my way

A couple days ago we noticed a tiny moth had flown in the back door and landed near a hall light. It hung out there until just now, when I opened the back door again and out it went. Turns out to be a Montana Six-Plume Moth! There is only one confirmed iNat observation in Ontario

Finally photographed some evening grosbeak! And a broad-winged hawk, loon, otter and two waterfowl which might be buffleheads. Will have to look closer. A banner morning for photos. Wish it did more to dispel my feelings of doom re: work

The tour did not go according to plan today. I didn’t get to go wading because they told me the wrong time to show up. The rest of the day was ok but not quite the adventure i was hoping for. Guess we’ll try again next year
So i switched to a different tour on Sunday, down at Presqu’ile where we’ll wade out to Gull Island. My hip waders are about to get a workout

Next up is a quick read, Forest Forensics by Tom Wessels. After that I have a field guide to grasses and sedges. I really got into sedges this summer, so many different ones!
