I think among other factors part of it is the shift into passively lurking & younger people w/out a lot of experience (who also joined fandoms/interests online in the time of such passive "consumption" being their norm)

Like I dunno man, it sucks to start over, but I also don't think people are gonna find you for your fandom or interests if all your art doesn't have any hashtags and its description doesn't include relevant (animal, genre, a series, etc.) keywords and just says "lol" or something

Plus, when you start out on a site you gotta kind of build up your posts to attract people and know how to tag/hashtag/use keywords/figure out how algorithms work and if the site even has one on a select site to be seen, anyway, that's kind of been how it's been for decades

So many (and in my experience this was the case as well) are inactive accounts that can bolster your follower count but offer nothing else and these aren't people there anymore, on a site with such fucked algorithms your shit gets hidden anyway? Hello?

I have to wonder for the people whinging about followers they'd lose, how many are even real people, let alone ones they interacted with?Actually interactive and engaged followers and mutuals is a much more enjoyable experience

Like it was a huge drop gradually over time and people stopped replying, stopped retweeting, Twitter turned into an engagement cliff even before it was THIS BAD

In my last peeks into Twitter and the period of the end of me posting art there (it's been a while but it was a garbage fire at the time too), the engagement on there was terrible, Like maybe 1-3 likes? I had ~3.5k followers

I had a dream they added Morrowind characters to Fortnite (I have never played that game and don’t know why I had a dream about it) and included a friend group all playing as ascended sleepers and corralling any Dagoth urs and herding them into one place while dancing and playing their trunks

A thing I finally finished lately after it sat in WIP purgatory. Dagoth ur’s mask but if he had the Dagoth symbol integrated into it (and the tusks from his concept art mask) AKA a fun excuse to do a lot of pencil hatching and delicate lines (very fun when stoned)

They also brought some side chars who were apparently lesbians back from the dead so it felt like they panicked & went “WAIT WE ARE’T HOMOPHOBIC” while simultaneously barely letting said gay main char directly interact with other male main characters for the rest of the show

The toxic fandom, staff got involved in ship wars, and they went “This guy’s gay, you’ll meet his partner soon!” and then next immediately killed off said fiancé
They also had a ship that got popular & added plot later on that made them adoptive relatives & it felt on purpose so that was. a thing.

I just plopped him outside Raven Rock as an easy place to find him and he ended up fighting dragons and losing frequently
A funnier coincidence was playing as my Nerevarine and an ash zombie who died put him in his will…while his boss (who my Nerevarine obviously killed) was like 100 ft away
