Teachers/parents of 3rd-5th graders! I’m teaching a small group vocal class & I’ve picked some music already but I’m looking for additional recommendations. What are 8-10 year olds listening to these days?? So far, it seems I need to watch KPop Demon Hunters & brush up on my early Taylor Swift.

If you need anything from me anytime soon,

don’t.

I’m busy marveling.

One unexpected perk of moving halfway across the country again is my new library card, which decreases the amount of time I have to wait for Libby holds because I can place holds on the same book in multiple library systems and just borrow the first copy that becomes available.

And just to be clear as this moves outside our usual circles: when we say we're looking for contingent scholars, we mean any trained scholars working off the tenure track, even if they aren't affiliated with a university in any way.

My sister is binge-watching Guy’s Grocery Games but instead of going strictly chronologically, she’s watching the first episode of every season in order, then the second episode of every season, then the third, etc. and it’s the most unhinged way to watch a television show I’ve ever encountered.

This is violently American.

Halfway through the first episode of Echo on Disney+. Why is the ASL interpreter literally interpreting from the shadows every time we’ve seen them so far? What a weird, impractical lighting choice.

Oh absolutely the fuck not. Solidarity forever, L&B.

Oh man. Jonathan Sterne passed away. He was so generous with his time when I approached him after a talk at the University of Minnesota a few years ago, and his writings remain a foundation of my work on sonic accessibility. What a loss.

Minneapolis-St. Paul folks! Tomorrow is the annual Disability Day of Mourning to honor disabled people murdered by their family members or caregivers. I coordinate the Twin Cities vigil every year; this year we’ll be meeting at the Guthrie Theater at 10:30am. Hope to see you there!

My Masters diploma arrived today, after a year and a half of fighting to get the piece of paper and finding out that multiple people in 3 separate offices have been incorrectly filing or altogether failing to file the degree completion paperwork I’ve been giving them since as far back as Nov 2018.

THE SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW IS UNION MADE!

Shout out to Kendrick Lamar, and all the performers and behind the scenes workers that made this go off without a hitch!

Two packs of party balloons have spontaneously appeared at the front of a shelf in our main closet.

I do not recall buying balloons.

My partner does not recall buying balloons.

No one else lives here.

Since I missed my chance to make a surprising confession before Tiktok went dark for like 30 seconds, I do so here and now:

I stopped updating Twitter when Musk bought it so I still have the bird app on my phone. (And it still works just fine!)

Dear colleagues who are teaching medieval music/history: are you working this week’s mad dash to download TikToks for offline viewing into your lessons on why The Dark Ages refers to a lack of surviving sources rather than a lack of stuff happening, yes or no?

In better news, I got an email from the registrar confirming that they’ve finally awarded me my MA that I earned back in May! Once I get the diploma in the mail, I will treat you all to the story of how and why it was delayed (it’s a doozy).

Okay, who has arranged a piano rendition of Somebody’s Getting Married from The Muppets Take Manhattan? My sweetheart has agreed to have it as our wedding recessional music and I can’t find any sheet music online. Surely this exists somewhere.

I scootered to work in 15°F weather today because I thought ‘eh, that’s what coats are for, and the roads are fine.’

Am I a real Minnesotan yet?

My partner is an Eagles fan and thanks to my brain fog/anomic aphasia, Jalen Hurts will now exclusively be referred to as the “first chair Eagle” in this household.
