Work in progress: a tool for switching visual materials between render pipelines in Unity. This allows the Vehicle Physics packages to work across all three supported render pipelines by simply pressing the appropriate button, with materials specifically configured for each pipeline.

Very interesting what you can learn from F1 pre-shows. In this case, we’ve got insights into the operating temperature ranges of F1 tires, along with the actual friction coefficients for three different compounds (soft, medium, hard).

Now *this* is good mesh density for a racing track 3D model.

~10,000 triangles for a single 60 m patch. The full circuit comes in at nearly 1 million (~960,000) triangles, split into around 96 individual meshes for optimal physics processing.

My impressions from this year’s Unite in Barcelona are very positive. Unity kept a low profile on announcements and new features, but the technical direction shows a strong focus on unifying and stabilizing the engine, as well as regaining trust in the platform.

Why is there a discontinuity in the tire force that appears only when the brake torque is nonzero? I’m still investigating, but it looks like we’ll need to redesign the final stage of the wheel model.

The 424 made it to the front page of this month’s RACE TECH Magazine! A six-page feature by RaceTechmag covers the car’s development, designed using a simulator powered by Vehicle Physics Pro, turned into a full engineering tool.

Verifying the quality of the 3D mesh of a mysterious track for testing the 424. The physics mesh is aligned with the LIDAR data, providing great detail on the track surface.

A full 24-hour simulation of the Ascari circuit using Vehicle Physics Pro. From bright daylight to dark night and back again. This simulator was developed to train for a real endurance race at the Ascari Resort Track.

Here are eight views of the same wheel model under different conditions. Everything looks nominal except for the longitudinal force when the wheel transitions from freely rolling (slip = 0) to fully braked.

The importance of real-time graphical analysis in tire model development. What looked like a minor effect in the tire forces during testing revealed a major discontinuity in the adhesion zone.
