Carers rights activist. Community campaigner. Passionate about building fairer, Co-operative futures.
We've been back out speaking to local people in Westerhope this morning - even if it was a bit chilly outside 🥶

It was great to speak with so many people about the issues which matter locally and to get such a warm reception despite the weather!

Yesterday I joined volunteers from Nourish Food School and Church of the Holy Spirit, Denton to undertake a Level 2 Qualification in Food Hygiene.

I'm pleased to say I passed with full marks - so will be able to get further stuck in helping support the community.

Standing in Solidarity This Hanukkah 🕎

Hanukkah is a story of resilience — light shining against overwhelming odds. May its flames be a beacon of comfort, and a reminder that love and community must always be stronger than hate.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

We will remember them.

I'm proud to have backed @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social to be our next Deputy Labour Leader.

She's principled, has a track record of delivery as Education Secretary, and will be a powerful voice who will help unite our party and put members and our values at the heart of the cabinet.

A great afternoon yesterday at the litter pick I helped organise with the local church.

Over 20 bags of litter collected, a MUGA cleared up, and a lovely time getting to know other local people in the sun 🌞

It isn't a problem of "overdiagnosis", it's an issue of systemic lack of resources.

The Co-op is “not a business,” says a Conservative frontbencher. 🤨

The Co-op is a business owned by its customers, who support stronger rights for workers and know that looking after colleagues is good business sense.

Maybe one to learn from?

Council tax is a regressive tax and needs to be overhauled.
Low-income families now spend a significant proportion of their income on Council Tax, bringing back Poll Tax-style problems.

While the lowest income households spend 5% of their income on Council Tax (after discounts have been applied), for the richest households it is just 1%.

The AfD underperformed in yesterday's federal elections in Germany.

Unfortunately, the reality is that despite the AfD not achieving the result they wanted, they remain a significant threat and will now likely form the first far-right opposition in Germany since Nazi's ascendancy in the 1920s.

This isn't massively shocking; declining living standards caused by populist decisions and governments are bound to have left young people feeling worse off than their parents.

I spoke to the Neighbourhood Police in West Denton & Westerhope today about anti-social behaviour and motorbike disorder in the area.

If you have any concerns about non-emergency crime, make sure to report it to 101 so it can be logged and used as evidence to inform police operations.

This morning Cllr @dangreenhough.bsky.social and @chionwurah.bsky.social were joined by volunteers to speak with residents in West Denton.

With America in retreat from the global stage & Germany/France too divided to lead, is this the moment Britain once again comes to the forefront as a global player and leader of the democratic world?
NEW: PM says he has no plans or speak to Putin in wake of Scholz call as he urges allies to “double down on shoring up support for Ukraine” and says must to that for “as long as it takes”. Here’s the exchange
