And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Emerging Faces has come to be seen as one of the first instances of painting autonomously created by a robotic system, but this has never satisfied me because we don't know what autonomy means. Perhaps art is always approaching a recursive horizon of emergence, always embodying this threshold.

Breaking footage of the moment my latest autonomous artist rejects painting, and decides that all it wants to do is dance.

Over past decade, Emerging Faces has been in exhibitions around the world including New York, London, Berlin, and Seoul. For next two weeks it is on display at Christie's Rockefeller Plaza.

Reflections reflect on each layer before painting the next. Layer by layer it works the canvas, searching for emergence.

"There are two types of artists working with AI: those starting from a photograph, and those lying about it."

This is something I heard multiple times in my calls with Harold Cohen, in a tone of disgust. My attempts to change his mind never worked, but eventually led to the Emerging Faces series.

Just slap somethin on it when you see a blank canvas staring at you with a sort of imbecility.

A robot was given simple yet profound instructions:

1: Try to imagine a face and paint it on a canvas.
2: Stop painting the moment a face is detected.

Lets get my rookie numbers up. Will send one of these at random as soon as I hit 1,000 followers. Will pick randomly from the comments. And if we don't get to 1,000 today, will come back to this when we do.

J apan Update!

There is a line for the Nintendo Store so my dad and I are having lunch at an e-sports bar until we can get in.

There is a live Fortnite Tournament.

And my father can not compute why I think this is so awesome.

SUN DAY

Our clothing
is hanging
from a line
on the rooftop
& the sun
is walking
back & forth
thru it.
Last night
we all fell
asleep listening
to your story.
You undressed us
put us to bed
& worked
until the wash
water ran black
so that we
could wake
in a world
without poison.
