One year ago today the cloudy Vermont skies opened for a brief window-exactly in time for the once in a lifetime total solar eclipse took place. We were amazed on the path of totality! VABVI made the eclipse accessible in locations along the path of totality using Harvard's LightSound Devices.

SMART Device Training helps Vermont seniors with impaired vision continue to do what they love to do and helps them live more independently. This video shows how SMART training with a bioptic lens helped Janet continue train herding dogs and use them to herd sheep.

VABVI's SMART Device Training program teaches VT seniors with impaired vision to use Smart phones & spkrs, iPads, tablets, and a range of other assistive tech devices to remain connected, informed, engaged and living as independently as possible. SMART training is crucial for an aging population.

Helen Keller with Grace Coolidge in Burlington, VT 1926. Helen was instrumental in getting the State of Vermont to financially support services to the blind. 1926 begins the partnership between the new State Division of the Blind (DBVI) and VABVI to deliver statewide services.

2/2022, VABVI began discussing the idea of creating accessibility features at Burlington's Waterfront Park. 2 months later we began work w Burlington Parks & Rec on what would be a map. 2.5 yrs later, map installed! Concept evolved from a tactile view of the mtns to a tactile overview of the park.

When Helen Keller toured VT in 1926, she spoke about the negative impact of social isolation; something people with impaired vision know too well. Humans are a social species, and loneliness is detrimental to our well-being. VABVI offers PALS groups: Peer Assisted Learning & Support for connection.
