I'll never understand this. As an avid reader, most books I read in middle and high school had male MCs. The Hobbit, LotR, Percy Jackson, Maze Runner, Lord Loss, The Vampire Assistant, Eragon, Ender's Game, The Apprentice... I could keep going.
