Although the title is widely known as a city in India, it had a different meaning or slang in Magritte's time. It referred to wealth and/or abundance.

Although he became well known by his hobby of painting, French artist Henri Rousseau (1844-1910) worked in what was known as a primitive style. His day job was as a tax collector!

I'm a fan of English painter #JohnWilliamWaterhouse (1849-1917) because his work is realistic but not hyperreal. He was an Academic painter that became part of the PreRaphaelite Brotherhood for their subject matter of strong women with mythological origins. This oil is called Boreas.

I never tire of this painting. I think i's part of Yales permanent British Art Collection in Connecticut.
