Today’s the day: @scalzi.com’s kazoo performance in Saratoga Springs! Also something about moon cheese, I think. Can’t wait!

Woop! @scalzi.com just got tix for your March 28 event in Saratoga Springs. Can’t wait to hear all about cheese moons! 🤗

And thanks @northshirebooks.bsky.social for bringing one of my all-time faves to the Capital Region, and for being a vital resource for our community. 📚

A big part of what makes this all so awful is that while I am living in a constant and hyper state of dread, depression and anxiety, half of our country is celebrating. Each news item that I react to with anger, fear or sadness, they cheer.

I can’t do this for four (or more) years. Can any of us?

The scariest part of Elon’s Nazi salute? The people clapped after it.

I’ve cried so much this week. This gives me hope, despite the voice inside my head telling me I’m crazy for ever believing in hope again.
The People’s March is moving through the streets of Washington: “We won’t go back!”

A broad coalition of activists — among them climate, women’s rights, immigration, anti-war, LGBT, D.C. statehood, racial justice — are mobilizing in unison against Trump, three days before his inauguration. 🧵

Took some time to appreciate that gorgeous Cheshire-moon-and-Venus combo tonight. 10/10 recommend.

It’s the one time of year we’re able to make changes to our health insurance where I work, and I’m so overwhelmed. Healthcare shouldn’t be this anxiety inducing. It shouldn’t be about which company is going to screw me and my family over less. And it shouldn’t be so difficult to get plan info. Ugh.

🚨First-world, privileged-person rant alert🚨

WTF happened to Q-tips?

First, they shrunk the cotton volume. Now, the rod thingie BENDS upon use.

Is nothing sacred anymore? Can nothing be made the way it used to be? Does brand-name mean ANYTHING in 2024?!

Thank you for coming to my Q-tip talk.

I don’t use Spotify and am experiencing some pretty serious wrapping FOMO today. 🥺

We don't learn from history because we haven't experienced those events, and humans don't learn well from being told things, we have to experience them for ourselves. History is the parent telling their kid not to make the same mistakes; humanity is the kid certain that their parent knows nothing.
I’ve been thinking about how history seems to be repeating itself, in its worst ways. Fascism, mysogyny and hate all seem to be on the rise, around the world. I wish we’d learn from history and try not to repeat ourselves.

Let’s see. A little about myself: I love my cat, phone always eats first, We Are Penn State, tea is the superior beverage, I work in higher ed, kindness is a major turn on, grammar is my super power, I’m empathetic to a fault, I will never be good at public speaking, my hair is currently magenta.

I finished A Little Life a week ago now and still have no idea how to rate it:

👉 It was beautiful, but horrific
👉 I couldn’t put it down, but didn’t really enjoy reading it
👉 I want to talk about it, but don’t want to recommend it

What a strange experience.

Second day on @bsky.app and I’m so relieved to have a feed filled with happy things again. Like books! 🤗

Here’s what I’m currently reading. It’s been on my TBR list since 2015 when it was published. Not exactly an uplifting read in these times, but man is it beautiful writing.

As I’m learning this app, so far my echo chamber appears to be pictures of cats, mushrooms, and birds; fans of books, libraries, and reading; and, in general, people who appear to be intelligent, compassionate, and pretty darn cool. I’ll be thrilled to stay so self-validating, thank you very much.

Since I’m new here I think it’d be a good idea to introduce everyone to Cannoli.
