We salute these VA workers for honoring #AlexPretti.

As they say, "We are healthcare workers for veterans. We know what heroes look like."
This is not the America our founders envisioned, and it is not the America I served 20 years in uniform to defend. We the People deserve better, and the families of the slain deserve justice. 3/3

It creates the conditions for abuse, and the predictable result is what we are now witnessing: civilians killed by agents of the state under highly questionable circumstances. These deaths reflect a broader pattern of anonymity and impunity that erodes public trust and violates the Constitution. 2/3

USMC Ret. Lt. Col Joe Plenzler gets it right. Visibility, accountability, trust are what professionalism & patriotism look like. Masked federal agents are operating in U.S. cities with little transparency & even less accountability. This anonymity is dangerous. 1/3

This is who we know the National Guard to be. Thank you to these service members for serving their communities with honor.
Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

This is important information. The city of Minneapolis is making sure its citizens know who is part of the National Guard.
Guard members will wear neon reflective vests to help distinguish them from other agencies who may be in similar uniforms. They will also remain in close contact with and proximity to the MPD officers they are supporting.

We are horrified by the shooting of Alex Pretti by Department of Homeland Security agents. Alex was a nurse who served veterans at the Veterans Affairs hospital and a member of AFGE Local 3669. His death is a tragedy for his family, his coworkers, and the community he served.

We stand with the people of Minneapolis. Armed forces/police forces should be there to protect the American people not to harm them, let alone kill them. Excessive force protects no one and harms all of us.

What do members of the National Guard think about being deployed to US cities? This article in the @washingtonian.com offers one person's view.

"He’s furious with the government for 'parading the National Guard around to intimidate people.'"

We see alarming reports the administration may invoke the insurrection act. This community of veterans knows the harm that comes from misusing the military. Deploying active duty troops against Americans isn't public safety & increases risks. We urge the administration to pull back.

The increased militarized presence in American cities can make it hard to figure out who is who. Not all these troops are the same. This article from @nytimes.com helps you understand the different forces. It's important to #KnowtheDifference.

The purpose of the VA is to care for those who served and in the ways they need to be treated. It is not meant to be a moneymaking endeavor for a hedge fund manager.

Privatizing the VA does not serve veterans.

Civilian protest is protected by the Constitution. ICE's recent actions in Minneapolis are designed to discourage protest, there and elsewhere.

But we will not be silent.

We are deeply concerned to see in this @washingtonpost.com article that 50k people left the VA in 2025. Millions of veterans rely on the VA & these losses impact the much needed care veterans receive. The administration must do better. #Veterans

Here are the agencies that were cut the most by Trump, new data shows
About 335,000 federal workers left government from January to November 2025, with a vast majority of those people quitting or retiring.

In light of today's tragedy in Minneapolis, we offer condolences. We wanted to remind everyone that ICE is not the same as the military. We see the military in our communities largely through the National Guard. We should all know the difference between the National Guard and ICE.

This article gets it right when talking about the #VA. "Historically, Congress understood military service as federal employment... Over time, however, the language of “disability” reframed that obligation as benevolence rather than accountability." 1/4

Why the VA’s Disability System Is Really Worker’s Compensation
VA disability compensation functions as government payment for service-connected harm, not welfare, and the language used to describe it has distorted public understanding and policy debates.

Last night, Trump bombed Venezuela and kidnapped President Maduro and his wife. This is regime change, plain and simple, the kind of reckless military action that has dragged the United States into decades of endless war.
