When the fungus Ustilago maydis infects maize plants, tumour-like tissue growths develop. Researchers led by Prof. Armin Djamei have now discovered that the fungus hijacks a programme in the plant that is responsible for forming lateral roots: www.uni-bonn.de/en/news/002-...
