A slightly neurospicy Gen-X word nerd. (BTW: Nerds and geeks are not the same thing.) Will comment on music often. Not a bear. A bit of a gainer. Cis-homo/queer. I contradict myself. I am large; I contain multitudes. No LGB without the T. 🏳‍🌈🏳‍⚧

Here's your uncle wishing you well on this #mcm and beyond. Big hugs for all who need 'em. It's a tough world out there. Be kind to everyone...especially yourself.
I was too young to appreciate the Muppet Show all those years ago, so I can't comment on the original. But this new one? I LOVE it. Please greenlight it for a full season. At least one.

Bridgerton season 4, episode 3.

The way Violet was so flustered in expressing how she was so into Marcus and wanted to pursue things with him...and the respectful way he concurred, and then they kissed?

SO endearing. 10/10, no notes. I literally applauded. Gave me hope for straights everywhere.

Lifting today was...I had more energy and more strength, I felt. I'd like to attribute it to listening to American Idiot, for which I'm really enjoying. If I find out it had anything to do with my 36 hour fast, I'm not gonna be thrilled.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I loved Catherine O'Hara from the moment I first saw her as Delia Deetz. I was pleasantly surprised to see that so many people loved her as well. Then again, Moira Rose was such an iconic character.

Made mayocoba beans for the first time tonight. (They're a legume.) I pressure cooked them for five minutes less than I should have. Yummy, but I'm half expecting the next 24 hours to be...uh...windy, shall we say.

Everyone else: Fat bear Friday! Fat belly Friday!

Me: Well, I'm on my own for a few days. Might as well get in a 36-hour fast. Good day to do it, right?

*looks at the news*

Fuck. Maybe I should get a 20-piece combo from Wingstop instead.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.

Not Delia. Not Moira. Not Cookie. Not Kate.

Not the woman who so graciously invited us back to Vancouver upon the closing of the Vancouver Olympics—just, please, not all at once.

Not one of my favorite women of all time.

Not Catherine. Please tell me this is not true.

🥺

Release the Trump-Epstein files.

Played "Blue" by Joni Mitchell. Then read the sheet music and saw how, over the years, my version had diverted from what I'd originally learned. I'm on the fence about whether I like my version better. But it's cool to see how I took some music and made it mine in a small way.

The first album shows Rage doing what they do best. But The Battle of Los Angeles shows what they were really capable of doing. Grateful for what they gave us, but it's a damn shame Battle was their last album together.

It kinda feels like the US has invaded Minnesota. Like...it's declared war on Minnesota without saying as much. Almost as if this is the beginning of a civil war. I'm probably overreacting, but this just feels so dire.

Off to the gym. Because somewhere there's a fascist homophobic low-life out there also lifting, and damned if I'm gonna let him get the better of me.

Not like I say it that often, but I'm gonna start calling them the Trump-Epstein files. We can put his name in front of things, too.

Fairly sure it’s unintentional, but the end date on this mug being sold by the Smithsonian does make it sound a little like they’re saying America dies in 2026…

Ya know, I don't do drugs. (Well, until I microdose shrooms.) So, instead, I'm gonna drop magnesium glycinate tonight. See what crazy sleep trip I go on. Maybe wake refreshed.

Y'all. It was 70 years ago...uh...*checks time*...fuck. Yesterday. Anyhow, take a little while for an awesome poem. (It's inspiring me to write my own version.)

One thing I've learned in this life: stay away from greatness. It's a ticket to disaster and disappointment. The greater you get, the more you are tempted by bad things and held up to scrutiny. I've seen it happen time and again. As Hedwig (the mother) said to Hansel, better to be powerless.

Uncle Spike here wondering...at what point does an uncle become a daddy? Or is it a choice?

Tangentially, I'd have been the best/worst dad. Dad jokes stick to my brain like refrigerator magnets. I'd have embarrassed my kids many times over. Shamelessly.

Hearing about how things are affecting my friends from MSP just guts me. And they're not even in the line of fire, so to speak. But they're close to those who are—personally and physically. It's just so, so wrong.

We were all told this country was the land of the free. What the fuck happened?

This is just two blocks from where Renee Nicole Good was murdered. I used to bike by both of these places for work years ago. Lived not far from here. A good friend—a hospitalist—lives not far from here. It's grim. And this is unacceptable.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

Trying something new: listening to an album I've never heard before (or perhaps not in a while) in its entirety each day. There's too much great stuff out there not to enjoy. Last night: New York Dolls. That was a LOT of fun. Before that was Bowie's Blackstar and Wish You Were Here by Floyd.

Aww. It's like @effinbirds.com knows me or something. I feel seen.

Ten years ago yesterday, David Bowie released Blackstar, his final album. Yesterday, I heard it for the first time. Remarkable. Lovely. Very artistic and vibrant. Musically, you'd never know it was done by a man on the brink of death.
