The "discover" feed is starting to get swamped with shitposters and pro-Ukraine goons.

Time to hightail it out.

Some keyboard issues are beyond explanation.

A certain (very expensive) keyboard I am using has dead arrow buttons.

If i keep hammering them for minutes non-stop, they eventually revive and start working perfectly. For a while.

About an hour later they are dead again. Rinse and repeat.

A faulty keyboard on a laptop computer is a death sentence for the computer, if the keyboard is one of those kinds where the power button is a button on the keyboard and not a dedicated button on its own PCB.

Because such keyboards are usually glued to the laptop housing and cannot be replaced.

Many people who claim to never believe a word from the US government are suddenly swallowing every word about some so-called "Russian disinformation campaign" hook, line and sinker.

How terribly convenient.

Bluesky does not save language settings on the web client.

After logging out and clearing both the history and the cache, the web version always reverts to English.

Not acceptable.
September 5, 2024 at 9:22 AM
Yes yes, everything the US doesn't like is Russian-funded.

Or part of a Russian disinformation campaign.

How convenient that the millions of people who claim to never trust a word from their government suddenly lap up every claim about so-called malicious Russian activities as an undeniable truth.

This thing about Zero Trust security is just broken.

Trust no one, no device and no system, regardless of whether they are within or outside the network sounds awesome.

And it's enforced by placing an awful lot of trust in network policies, firewalls, IPS, IDS and cloud-based EDR / XDR systems. 🙄

I see the Linux 'tards are out in full force fear-mongering Copilot's Recall feature in Win11 24H2.

Zigzag dieting only works for the first two-ish plateaus.

Eventually the plateau will become permanent and the only way to break it is to exercise even more while eating even lesser.

Which also comes with its share of problems.

Does anyone not find it interesting why Brazilians came to Bluesky after Twitter was banned, and not other competitors like Truth Social and Mastodon?

Hopefully BSky will be able to implement something like a "Block all posts like this" feature some time soon.

Because I am so utterly sick of seeing "Looking for mutual interests" posts.
September 2, 2024 at 11:59 PM
Those "looking for people with mutual interests" posts listing a shit ton of games, anime and movies are a blight on my feed.

If only there is a way to block *all* such posts from showing up.

Smartphones have completely destroyed the compact camera segment. Even the compact superzoom segment is gone forever.

Whoever thinks smartphones can replace compact cameras, please go and die in a corner. 💀

At least the large bridge camera segment is still holding on.

How fast Rust is integrated into the kernel is not the concern here.

The stonewalling and politicking on both sides is.

Sort your damned squabbles out and come to an agreement so that the matter can move on.

When a bluetooth keyboard eeps skipping keys, it's really difficult to tell whether the fault lies with the keyboard or the bluetooth connection between the keyboard and the BT radio.

I don't listen to Kenny G.

Not because I don't like him or his music.

Brass is just too harsh on the ears for light music.

If a web browser sucks out 4 to 8 GB of memory, it is the problem.

If it sucks out 32GB of memory, the user is the problem.

Stop running 80 tabs in the browser.

China's real name and national ID verification requirement for their games is a huge bummer.

There are so many Chinese games I want to play, but none of them will accept a foreign phone number or national ID number.

Anyone who defines their self-worth and esteem through the acceptance of random, anonymous and faceless strangers on the Internet seriously need mental help.

To any business or company that wants to roll out a fleet of more than 7 Windows or Mac computers at a time and expects it to be done manually, without tools like SCCM and Entra...

...what the hell.

Drinking 4 to 6 litres of water over an entire day will not cause water poisoning.

Chugging 4 to 6 litres of water in one go most probably *will*. And only complete idiots do that.

Bluetooth really could use more standardisation across end-devices.

When using Bluetooth devices on a computer, being able to see the device's remaining battery is quite important.

Yet only one of three BT devices report its battery status. And it happens to be a Microsoft device.

There is a certain appeal to watching videos with the audio muted.

It means not having to reach for earphones, not having to deal with sudden loud blasts, and most importantly, no audio distractions.

So please start adding subtitles to videos so people like me can understand what's being played.

People complain about wasted space to download Adobe Reader, which weighs in at 500mb+, for reading PDFs on the Internet.

And will rather download a 100mb reader like Foxit.

Instead of using the web browser's built-in PDF reader which needs *no additional downloads*.
