through reading old stories i have discovered that there used to be so many daily mail deliveries that in the morning, you could send a letter, “want to come over tonight at 5?”, and in the afternoon receive a response letter: “sure”. this feels more advanced than any of our tech

If you could change the ending of one movie, which one would it be? And how would you change it?

A Starfleet Academy series should be a wish-fulfillment of all the Star Trek fans imagining they joined Starfleet. That's why they made all the main characters fat losers.

Why is this so common these days?

Studios really should be just taking good scripts/concepts and slapping marvel/Star Wars branding on them

every generation sees their culture fade into the past & change into something else. it’s inevitable. but now it seems like instead of changing into another form of culture, what’s fading away is the concept of having a culture itself.

Generative AI development is like what would happen if the combustion engine somehow got invented before wheels or vehicles did and they started hoarding all the country’s building materials to make giant diesel engine facilities that do nothing except pollute for no reason.

I think superhero movies were on the whole better when filmmakers were slightly embarrassed about them and made an effort to class them up to convince skeptical audiences.

The reason why adaptations and localizations are usually bad or wildly divergent from the source material is because the people involved are all convinced they're creative geniuses and resent the fact that they have to adapt someone else's idea

I will never recover from the size comparison of a B-17 FLIGHING Fortress and an F-15 EAGLE.

Also, the empty weight of the B-17 is just 5,000 lbs more than the F-15 two-seater.

Oh, and the payload capacity?
For the B-17: up to 8k lbs
For the F-15: up to 23k lbs

Unreal.

I genuinely think a massive cultural divergence today is whether or not you regularly order (or want to order) food delivered to your house using DoorDash or UberEats

If you don’t do this, then you are practically a different species to those who do
