The Bracewell Travelling Scholarship is funded by a gift from SSEES Emeritus Professor of History Wendy Bracewell, whose research examines South Slav history, and travel writing in eastern Europe.

This morning we welcomed librarians from the House of Commons Library. We enjoyed exchanging professional experience and showing them around the SSEES library. We also put together a small display of items from our unique special collections for them to explore.

We are still on our vacation opening hours this week - 10:00-19:00, Monday-Friday only. Term-time hours and Saturday opening will start again from Monday 12th January.

A lovely find in our Russian section today... "Birds in front of the microphone and camera", published 1972, and inscribed by the authors with a dedication to "friends and nature lovers". The book comes with a recording of birdsong - side 1 "Birds of the White Nights"; side 2 "Talking birds". 🐦🦆🦜🐤
A Russian-language book with a picture of a Capercaillie on the cover lies on a desk, along with a small record in a plastic cover, and a paper sleeve for the record. The title of the book can be translated as "Birds in front of the microphone and camera". A Russian-language dedication on the inside cover of the book reads "To dear friends and nature lovers, from the authors". There are three signatures, dated 14 December 1973.
