I don't know if it's due to getting older, or unplugged more often, or what exactly - but I have been noticing much more depth and detail in old, familiar things. Recently re-watched Mad Men and it was like a new show, much more nuance. War Pigs by Black Sabbath now and hearing more complex sounds.

Watching #Alien: Earth, five minutes in. Everyone is eating breakfast with the cereal in OXO vacuum seal containers.

When #Threads first came out, I signed in to poke it with a stick. Then you couldn't delete the profile without deleting your full Insta account. At some point this was changed - glad to get rid of that baggage.

Been looking for alternatives to #Spotify. Heavy algorithm user and live on Daylist/suggested, Radio, and playlists. Non-album Apple and Tidal recommendations lacking. #Deezer needs to up their CarPlay game and fix unpopulated Song Mixes that stop after the first song, but otherwise petty good.

Received a copy of Larry Niven's "Lucifer's Hammer" from #WorldofBooks with a piece of #bacon between two pages. Now that's customer service!

Finally watched The Big Short today and really enjoyed it. I always thought it was similar to The Wolf of Wall Street and glorified bad guys, I was very mistaken. #movies

It’s been a long time coming, but I finally got away from #Google Photos and the library is empty. I’d done takeout a long time ago but had a million duplicates all over the place. Import into #Shotwell filtered exact duplicates. Using #Digikam to get rid of the rest that are more fuzzy.

But why does the #petco website have more #security and verification checks than any bank?

#shopify CEO is defending the Trump tariffs, blaming Canada. Surprising since it’s a Canadian company, but tech bros gotta be sucky everywhere apparently.

It’s not immediately clear when you sign up, but the shop app is their consumer side. It’s very easy to delete your account there.

Would like to update my #iphone but will realistically just get a new battery once it hits 70% capacity. A while ago #apple stopped allowing 0% financing on the Apple Card unless you activate with a big carrier and I’m still salty about it.

A while ago I got on a kickstarter for a #goodomens graphic novel. After the information dropped about Gaiman a lot of people have wanted refunds.

They are open for a while. Also, Neil Gaiman will not receive any proceeds from the graphic novel and they will all go to the Terry Pratchett estate.

I wonder if any sociologists have studied the relationship to American evangelical culture to Southern culture/values. It seems very much like someone at some point asked “how do we turn these California hippies or Seattle grunge rockers into 1960s southern democrats?” (Rhetorical, someone did)

It blows my mind that people could not predict for themselves that there would be long term consequences to Covid. Millions died, the entire world ground to a halt, & people sell their souls & nations to run to the right because things aren’t back to pre-pandemic normal and populists promise it all?

So the #tiktok ban is in effect… US users have the option download their data over the web but there is not currently an option for them to delete their account. Normally it exists, now it’s inaccessible.

Meanwhile their videos are still available for everyone else.

USA Today put up an interactive LA wildfire damage map, including property photos. It is updated daily. Zooming in and seeing all of the 3d buildings with the red circles is breathtaking in a bad way.

It strikes me as odd that Mark Zuckerberg constantly talks about the great future he is bringing about while building doomsday bunker.

So a bunch of TikTok people are starting to use the actual Chinese app Xiaohongshu aka REDnote, so mission accomplished I guess?

I used to live near an Aldi but didn’t understand what it was. Today I live near an Aldi again and went to take a look. After price comparing with my normal grocery store I’m hooked already. It probably helps that I always buy store brands as it is.

Bonus: person before me didn’t lock their cart.
