Going into the offseason, I did not expect the Orioles to even be involved with Alonso (or Schwarber). Tbh, I'm still not sure if I like it all that much.

But it is awesome to see Elias/Rubenstein spend some money. This is undoubtedly a good thing! The team is better. They are more fun. Let's go!

Annual reminder that the people that cover the MLB Draft are incredible. They have insights on nearly all of the ~600 kids that are picked from all over the country. Makes the whole thing so accessible and interesting to a baseball fan (like me) that has no idea who any of these players are.

The Orioles needed their offense to do good things this year and until lately it wasn't coming through. Our @tyleryoung.bsky.social writes about how important it is for Mike Elias that things come together and stay together for this group of bats:
Mike Elias needs the Orioles offense to produce, and it finally has
It may be too little to late to make a playoff push in 2025, but a rejuvenated offense could save the GM’s job.

It's a steep hill for the Orioles to climb to get back to contention. Our @tyleryoung.bsky.social writes that it's going to take a lot more from the offense to get them there:
The Orioles’ only path back to contending requires more from their offense
Things have been improving for the Orioles lineup, but they remain far short of what their expectations were coming into the season.

It's taken til June to get here, but maybe the Orioles are finally, sorta, maybe competitive? Our @tyleryoung.bsky.social writes about what's gone differently in the last week-plus:
The Orioles finally look like a competitive team
Although their playoff hopes have gone up in smoke, the Orioles still have plenty to prove in what’s left of 2025.

All the Orioles offense needed to get going was an automatic runner on second base to begin the inning.

The Orioles weren't supposed to be historically bad against left-handed pitchers this year but that's where they are so far, and as our @tyleryoung.bsky.social writes, there's not an easy fix for the problem:
The Orioles’ struggles against left-handed pitchers have no easy fix
It seemed like the front office had safeguarded against handedness issues by building in potential platoons all over the field. But it has not worked out in practice.

If the Orioles were actively trying to make Birdland miserable, that wouldn't look a whole lot different from the baseball they've played in April. Any reason to hold on to optimism? Our @tyleryoung.bsky.social tries to cling to some belief:
Is there any reason for optimism with the Orioles?
The first month of the season has been bad. Will it get any better?

With the way the Orioles rotation has been, they haven't had many low-scoring games this year. The offense hasn't been scoring much either. They finally won a pitcher's duel (of sorts) with Thursday's 2-1 win. Recap of some lovely totals:
Orioles finally win low-scoring game, beat Nationals 2-1
Cade Povich was brilliant, and the bullpen locked things down, while the lineup was quiet outside of one inning.

Norfolk got rained out and everybody who played, lost. A bummer in the Orioles system yesterday! Notable from Chesapeake: Trevor Rogers started rehab, and Braxton Bragg (not the Confederate general) had a nice AA debut.

None of the Orioles affiliates won, but the organization did feature some solid pitching performances.

It's only ten games into the season, but is it time to be worried about the Orioles? Our Tyler Young has seen enough to have some concerns. You probably have too!
It’s not too early to be worried about the Orioles
So far, the O’s have not looked like the World Series contender they hoped to be entering this season. Even worse, their specific struggles extend back to last summer. But that doesn’t mean they are w...

Nothing like the Orioles scoring eight runs in a blowout win to chase away the gloom for a little while. Sugano got his first win, Holliday got three hits, and the O's beat the Royals, 8-1. Recap:
Sugano impresses, Orioles offense mashes in 8-1 win over Royals
The O’s starter dazzled to earn his first MLB win, and he was supported by a lineup that succeeded despite no contributions from its two biggest stars.
