I post about the absurdity of life. Occasionally serious political stuff. Things about my dog. Life in England.
As someone who’s a bit left wing, the left wing pisses me off so much.

The Reform Party leads the polls and we are struggling to recover 14 years of Tory rule. But instead of working together the hard left is fragmenting the whole project in pursuit of ideological purity.

Get out of our own way!

At a work party today I mentioned for my birthday that I got no US Bourbon because of the USA boycott.

Immediately everyone chimed in that they were on a US boycott too.

These are upper-middle class people in the UK, and the USA is just not a place they want to spend money.

Take note.

When I was a kid, every indoor space smelled like cigarettes and I just accepted that was the world. 30 years later now I think the smell is weird and find it hard to believe we all accepted that world.

I think my son is going to have the same feelings about car exhaust.

How will democracy survive when AI video is so cheap, abundant and realistic?

For years I’ve been able to trust clips of the ‘real people’ I ‘knew’ to debunk false images and video - but now those people can be faked just as easily.

Will I ever believe my eyes again?

A sad, paranoid world awaits.

I just don’t understand anyone against green energy in the UK.

The reason energy is so expensive is because of gas prices, and the only way to avoid the international gas price is to make non-fossil fuel power!

Even if we became self sufficient in gas tomorrow, gas would still cost the same.

What can the UK do about all this?

Stick to the fiscal rules, allow all the house building, de-regulate the financial sector, get big into free trade, implement an industrial strategy designed to pick off American businesses.

Just stay stable in the face of the storm!

Arrrghfjfjfjdidksnhdxu I’m just so angry at the world. In the late 90s we had relative peace and a great forward trajectory.

Now what do we have?

War, debt, climate change and nowhere decent to live.

We’ve fucked this up so hard.

The average American voter is just too poorly educated, too self-aggrandised and even more poorly informed to vote for the hard choices.

All 3 of those have to work in tandem to get them in the mess they are in now.
1. Poorly educated > can’t/won’t think through problems

The EURO is currently the only viable currency to take that coveted reserve currency status from the Dollar. I mean it’s a big ask and won’t happen quickly and not without European reform but it’s there as a prospect. I mean in my view it’s all we are likely to have if the USA continues on this path

Now wouldn’t this be an opportunity for the UK?? Look we have stayed stable throughout all this!

And 10 years ago i might have agreed but Brexit and Truss did a real number on us. We are also an unreliable partner who might default on our debt!

So I guess that leaves the EU??

‘Well why do you care if the USA fails? You’re British’

Because US debt and strength underpins the whole economy and concept of how great democracy and capitalism is - the USA failing means we can all fail so it will get harder for us all to borrow and live.

Americas debt bomb means a world of pain.

The inevitable default (and default will be the easiest option) will put the USA on a course to an economy like Argentina with spending high, taxes low, and terrible boom/bust cycles.

The dollar will stop being the worlds currency and the easy life is over

American politics since Bush Jr is built on ‘taxes too high’, ‘need growth’, ‘need defense’ and ‘don’t cut anything’.

So if debt is too high there is literally nothing the government can do - no big cuts or tax rises are possible or it’s political suicide.

The last 25 years they had it all!
April 30, 2025 at 6:49 PM
For starters. America is economically ruined and its citizens won’t be able to accept that.

What do I mean?

Its debt is too high and trust in the USA has dropped.

All Americans are used to borrowing for free but this is going to end and Americans won’t ’accept it’

Gonna just start shouting into the void here. I just see a huge number of icebergs on the horizon and I just want to be able to say I told you so.

I’ve long accepted I can’t change much.

One for the ‘the vaccine doesn’t work’ people on Covid.

We all have this awful cold/flu in our house except my 78 year old dad who is fine.

Tonight we finally took a test, we all have Covid, except Dad.

The difference, he had a booster in February - lucky son of a bitch.

Seeing all the news out of the US government I do have some schadenfreude.

Since I was very small a barrage of TV and film has told me how the ‘land of the free’ is protected by this ‘amazing constitution’ and backed up by a right to own guns.

And then less than 3 months into this government… 1/2

My child looks like he is part-Smurf.

Good luck.

Now I’ve seen a lot of errors while reading to my toddler but this one takes the cake. Do they not have editors for kid’s books???

@climatetown.bsky.social hey. Can we please have more Climate Deniers Playbook? I’m aching for a new podcast over here! Here’s a topic: wind turbines kill whales and birds

If any government money is spent on Manchester United’s new football stadium there should be riots in the street.

Invest the money in people!

Just tried to head off some mid-information and now I feel I have to apologise for making someone feel bad.

I feel I did the right thing but maybe I did it wrong. Help?!? (1)
