In Japan, February 22nd is celebrated as “Cat Day” because the date, written as “2/22,” resembles the sound “nyan nyan nyan,” which is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat’s meow.

Wagashi -Teatime cats- are made of beans, rice flour, cocoa, sugar, Matcha that I made on Cat Day (2/22/22)

Sharing a process of making cups.
Just finished trimming 102 cups for our next Anagama firing.
Trimming small cups needs more muscle than trimming bigger pots. The muscles below my left thumb is crying.
102 個カップを削り終えたら、左親指の付け根の筋肉が痛くて泣く。

Take your pet to work day, every day!
Since I mostly work at home, my cat, Prince comes to me whenever he wants to.
I was assembling teapots and he walked on my table, and on my arm. I just kept working till he gave up.

Hoshigaki paired with Espresso:

My favorite way to eat hoshigaki is simply on its own.
However, when I serve it with matcha at tea gatherings, I sometimes slice it and fill it with anko—either sweet white bean paste, sweet whole adzuki bean paste, or sweet chestnut paste.

On Setsubun in Japan we eat Ehomaki- a whole Sushi roll, without cutting (I broke the rule), silently facing towards the lucky direction. It is said to bring good luck and prosperity for the new year. Ehomaki is typically filled with seven ingredients to represent the seven Gods of happiness.

Pumpkin tartine with espresso (Guatemala Amate from Heart Roaster)
It was a good pairing with pumpkin tartine. After roasting pumpkin, pureed and squeezed like Mont Blanc on goat cheese on sliced baguette, topped with roasted pumpkin, roasted seeds, and rosemary.

My grandmother grew strawberries in our home garden, along with other fruits and vegetables.
I enjoyed helping her with weeding and picking them. Of course, the most fun part was eating them! She grew the best strawberries and made the most delicious strawberry jams too!!!
