Venezuela has:
- hydroelectric power and potential in the south and west,
- potential for wind power in the northwest
- sunny days all year long (tropics)

One of the main impediments to going 100% green is that consumers can’t pay much more than they are paying now, which is practically nothing

Official US posture last week: avoid doing business in Venezuela
US posture this week: knock yourselves out

I mean, how is this not good for Venezuelans*?

FWIW, the black market Venezuelan Bolivar fell a lot more last week than it did after the US military operation. This is good news.

In sum, nobody has drank our milkshake, and nobody ever will, without paying. Hopefully, it will bring some boys to the yard.

There are many Venezuelans (mostly abroad) that are adamant that Delcy Rodriguez, her brother, Diosdado Cabello, Padrino Lopez, Lacava, and the rest of Maduro’s circle, should also be jailed. That’s not gonna happen. The trick is to love your country more than you hate some politicians.

A year ago, Trump was threatening Venezuela with pulling out US oil companies (i.e. Chevron). Now he’s threatening to bring US oil companies, with the same regime in place. Do people still think this is bad for Venezuela, especially long-term? Trump is old and senile. This decision will outlive him.

Another point here is that in recent years, Maduro had to implement relatively pro-market policies similar to those that would have been dictated by the IMF (remove price/import controls, austerity, etc). Unlike politics, the economy doesn't require drastic change. finance.yahoo.com/news/venezue...

Fun fact: if you go to any military office in Venezuela, you will see that the chain of command starts with Chavez, who was declared dead in 2013. Then comes Maduro and then the Minister of Defense. So it's unsurprising that Delcy has not been sworn in as President. Change will take some time.

So many lazy takes on Venezuela, mainly by people that have to publish anything to maintain their social media momentum. So they Google the country, cherry-pick some facts, and assemble a narrative. But being social media, it’s pushed to the top and distributed broadly if the person has a following.

I have friends that work in the government and they post those things like "we pray for Maduro", etc. I don't have the confidence to ask them if they do that because they believe it or because that's what the job demands. Perhaps it's a mix of both. You can't work years on something that you dislike

A day after President Trump declared that the U.S. planned to “run” Venezuela for an unspecified period, Defense Department officials said there were no U.S. military personnel in the country. But a force of 15,000 troops on land nearby and on a dozen warships remain “at a high state of readiness.”

Just like when Maduro stole the elections in 2024, you will see a lot of global leaders expressing concern, yet zero action. As long as they don’t return Maduro to Venezuela, we’re much better off now. The likelihood of free elections this year is high.

. @profgalloway.com often says is that SVP’s look into the mirror each morning and say “hello CEO”. Here in Venezuela, some of Maduro’s former underlings are saying to the mirror “hello President”. There will probably be the first elections in Venezuela with no incumbent on the ballot since 1998. 👍🏼
