I’m looking to hear decent opposing views whom I can have civilised conversations with, hope they’re here 🙄
AI is potentially the single most achievement humanity will ever create alongside its existential threat to our future. We don’t have the circumstances conducive to an international collaboration to set the ground rules ensuring that we stay in charge & it’s scary. #technopolitics #ai #aiethics
AI Ethics in The Age of Diminishing Legitimacy of International Institutions
In The World of Yesterday, Stefan Zweig reflects on the contrast between the world he knew before WWI and the one that emerged after.

We already know how the business model of these platforms pushes the algorithms to stretch at the tail ends towards more extremism or amplifying fringe voices. Anything has a potential to blow up given the right inflection points on social. How sincere is that though?

Most useful and essential things in life are boring and regulated to protect us. The hype around AI shadows that need to think seriously about the ethics and governance of it. It is not early, it is just the time. We will innovate, we always innovate, that’s not enough of an excuse.

From Simpsons to Fox, Diller was a prominent figure in both entertainment and technology as later in life he founded IAC. There’s a lot to uncover in his memoirs about the power of social norms in shaping our lives and running major global businesses while staying curious and humble.

There’s a substantial difference between the frontier AI models that are developed by data rich companies (Google, Meta) & the rest which need to rely on other data. We’re in the eye of the storm of the race to the AGI & how much we’re questioning this is a big issue. #technopolitics

On April 17th, DoJ won against #Google in an antitrust case on monopolising ad market. The reason I mention this case is to discuss the potential effects of a prospective break up of Google. I want to speculate on #YouTube's independence from Google and its effect on competition with #Netflix.

A lot’s happening on the #AI front affecting primarily content on platforms but there are other factors which blur the view. Here’s what I think about the future…

Content creation doesn’t have a future on platforms… including Substack
Before you jump on blaming me for hyperbole, let me tell you this, I really mean it.

#Movies are not just entertainment, they’re how we project ourselves unto the world. Live our aspirations, heart breaks, inspirations… Streaming algorithms are killing this beautiful art form and we’re watching…

My latest piece this time on the love of cinema and tech’s ruining it🎥 #technopolitics

Legal doesn’t always equal to just or fair. In a world where governments create arbitrary rules to protect their power against the society, the oligarchy of current platforms cannot be trusted by the global community.

Heres an alternative, better universe which has to be possible👇

In Turkey, thousands are standing up to protect their democracy after the arrest of Istanbul’s mayor. 📢

As protests grow, opposition voices are being silenced—X accounts suspended, internet access restricted.

But the people are not backing down. ⚖️🇹🇷

X’s valuation is miraculously back to $44B, what about the valuation of truth, its main ‘trading’ good?

The Valuation of Truth
Valuation is the most popular measure of a company’s intrinsic worth in the eyes of the investors.

We’re slow in building, in solving our problems & AI, fed by the facts could be the key to advise us, streamlining our decision making while we put that advice into context with the realities of our communities which can’t be translated into data so that we propel our social & economic development.

47% of venture capital funding in 2023 went to #SaaS companies and the global SaaS industry is worth more than US$237 billion (probably much higher now as we speak). All of these businesses are counted as tech companies and treated as such from investment to valuation expectations.

From the gym floor to red light therapies, we’re surrounded by the longevity gurus.

It’s not a dream though and has real life implications for our society and beyond.

Here’s to the madness which will make some of us live longer and regret it afterwards… maybe 🤔 👇

What do consumers have as alternatives to their popular platform products? Despite strong network effects, do we keep whining about them or support people who create those alternatives? What needs to change for the developers and consumers to save ourselves from the stranglehold of five companies?

As Musk and his minions wreak havoc on the US federal government, the only people who care are the same ones who worry about their data in the hands of social media giants. Users are products there and people are used to being treated as such hence no reaction to this usurp by the general public.

When Ida Tarbell began to investigate Standard Oil in 1901, nobody expected that her articles in every issue of McClure’s for three years and dogged pursuit of ending the unfair business practices of the conglomerate would indeed be a major factor in bringing down Standard Oil.
