We don't now, and never have had a meaningful democracy in the UK. Without democracy, then, whither freedom?

John Craven's "and finally..." lives on, as BBC news insists on placing such stories on the front page of their website. Just, without the jaunty 'bit of fun' look.

"NHS England said contacting GPs online is now easier for patients and that the figures reveal its popularity."

NHS England eulogise people that can afford an Internet connection, that people have to pay for.

The NHS is no longer "free at the point of use". www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Higher proportion now contacting GPs in England online, figures show
All NHS practices were required by the government to provide web bookings from October.

This story is a perfect example of why Starmer's mantra of "Change" was meaningless and empty rhetoric. The BBC defended the previous govt, and continues to defend this one; it is what it does. Meanwhile, we have to put up with their pro-govt BS. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Government racks up £100m bill responding to Covid inquiry
BBC analysis shows cost to taxpayer is 50% higher than thought, with inquiry's own costs at £192m.

I wonder if someone could be considered Ultra-non Orthodox. And, perhaps more importantly, if our bastion of fair and balanced media would write a derisory anti-freedom-of-religion article about it if they were.

Well, would you? I need to know.

Personally, I think a cottage pie would be inconsiderate, but a shortcrust Cornish pasty would be more modish.

Thank you, BBC News, for raising this gnarly issue.

I think I've been largely well behaved here, at least, compared to my output on the other place anyway.

What say you, @profanity.accountant?

I don't think I've seen a more compelling political speech, and I trust Zarah will persevere against all the negativity that has dogged Your Party's inception, and go on to become our PM one day. And not a day too soon.

Unlawful. As signatories to the Rome Statute, we have a constitutional duty to consider International Law. Any conviction found must be appealed, and if the conviction is upheld, well know we are a corrupt and rogue state

Minister defends 'pragmatic' U-turn on workers' rights.

It was a manifesto pledge

Why no 'pragmatic' U-turn' on nationalising water, energy, rail rolling stock companies and freight; ending privatisation of the NHS and social care; taxing the super rich?

New immigration rules demand people speak English to A level standard. There's no oral element to A Level English exams (nor GCSE), so how is this to be tested, & by whom?

I teach English in state secondary school. Most of my colleagues aren't A Level standard, so I doubt border guards will be...

The UK government claims to see Israel's occupation of the West Bank as illegal. But when it is repeatedly asked to ban trade from Israel's illegal settlements there, it always refuses.

Thus UK trade policy continues to support Israel's illegal occupation.

No, it's not.

The political class's encroaching fascism is what is tearing the country apart.

"Othering" is just one of the heinous indicators of fascism, and this govt is tilting windmills into all of them.

If I ran the country, I'd make them all crimes against humanity.

Streeting here, is using the weasle-word "cartel", to undermine trades union negotiations. This development removes him from consideration as a fair arbiter of those negotiations.

He must resign as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

That unions haven't called for this is their shame.
No Wes Streeting, the BMA is not acting like a cartel. It’s acting like a trade union. And frankly it’s disgusting to hear you talk like this while huge numbers of doctors can’t get NHS jobs because you haven’t created them, while millions of patients are on waiting lists🚨🚨🚨

Yep. In fact, voting for Starmer and Labour is NEVER an option. If you hand the electorate even one viable alternative they take it.
Where there is an option to vote for neither Labour nor Reform, people take it. But the Starmer bots insist those are the only options
October 24, 2025 at 8:49 AM
I’m seeing as lot of ‘Starmer is a symptom of the rot, not the cause’, but he has been Labour leader for near five years, and PM for over one year. He is the rot’s public face, one that has ensconced the rot throughout the party. He’s a parasite, and now the host is dead.
